Surface Area:
Surface Area:
Surface Area (SA) – of a solid figure is the sum of the areas of all its surfaces, or faces.
Lateral Area (LA) – of a solid figure does not include the base or bases.
To Find the Surface Area of a Figure:
1) Describe the size and shape of the figure.
2) Find the area of each face.
3) Find the sum of the areas.
There are some figures that we can use a formula to calculate the surface area:
Surface Area of a Right Prism: SA = 2(lw + lh + hw)
Surface Area of a Cube: SA = 6e2
Surface Area of a Rectangular Right Pyramid: SA = ½ Pl + B
Surface Area of a Right Circular Cylinder: SA = 2πrh + 2πr2
Surface Area f a Right Circular Cone: SA = ½ Cl + B
Surface Area of a Sphere: SA = 4πr2

Volume:
Volume (V) – amount of space enclosed by a 3-D figure.
- measured in cubic units (units3).
We have already reviewed the different formulas for volume on our formula sheet from September.
Volume of a Rectangular Solid: V = lwh
Volume of a Cylinder: V = πr2h
Volume of a Cube: V = s3
Volume of a Cone: V = 1/3 πr2h
Volume of a Sphere: V = 4/3 πr3
