RESEARCH INSTRUCTIONS:

After determining a workable topic, develop a research plan to focus your research time effectively. Your plan should include:

A clear claim

2-3 strong reasons

Suggestions of what evidence (research) will be needed to prove the reasons.

The strongest argument for the opposition

Suggestions of evidence both for the opposition and to disprove the opposition’s argument.

WRITING INSTRUCTIONS:

You will produce an argumentative essay that clearly addresses your claim and contains a counter-argument and rebuttal of the opposition.

Your essay should begin with an introduction containing a hook and ending with a clear statement of your claim.

5 persuasive strategies should be employed in your writing. (Claim + 4 others)

One example of parallel structure should be used.

The conclusion should end with a call to action or a thought-provoking idea.

The essay must be typed in MLA format. Parallel structure and strategies should be highlighted and labeled.

DUE DATES:

2/10 3 completed sources sheets/ works cited (to be created on Friday)

2/13 completed essay outline

2/15-2/16 completed rough draft

2/17 FINAL COPY DUE—typed, highlighted and labeled before class begins
