!!!!!!!!!!!! 2006 BULL ROAST !!!!!!!!!!!!

Mark your calendars, the date for our annual SHFC Bull Roast will be Sunday August 13th @ Noon. Location – picnic area by the Clubhouse, above the softball fields – Food, Swap Shop & Club Meeting.

Adults $3.00, Kids 4-12 $1.00, under 4 free. Bring your hunting, fishing, camping, and outdoor items for a swap meet. If you would like to help work the Potluck flavor of the Bull Roast and would like to contribute a side dish or provide a needed item, call Gene Adamson (1-1531) or Dave Mulholland (7-3674) for the list of items needed. Reimbursement of materials/food items will be done to receipts, and workbond can be earned by this help.

REMINDER TO ALL MEMBERS

Lockheed Martin's Workplace Security policy, CPS-565 is strictly enforced. One provision of the policy is a workplace free of weapons, which includes Firearms, Ammunition, Bows and Arrows. The club must emphasize this policy to our members. Additionally, a state issued CCW permit does not supersede nor over ride this LMA policy.

Members wanting to store firearms OR archery equipment during the day ONLY, must contact Gene Adamson (1-1531) or Dave Mulholland (7-3674) for access instructions.

FIRE DANGER ON THE RANGE

The fire season is upon us again, with dry conditions throughout the range. The Board has initiated the following policies in order to mitigate the fire potential on the range:

1) No Smoking on any range, firearms and archery

2) All steel gongs have been removed from the hogback. DON’T BRING YOUR OWN!!!!!!

THEY WERE REMOVED FOR A SAFETY REASON.

These policies will remain in effect until the fire season ends and the Board assess the conditions.

All club members must be vigilant for signs of fire while on the range. Report any and all fires to Plant Protection via the 911 emergency systems. When using a cell phone, dial 303-977-4911.

SNAKES ON THE MOVE

With all the hot dry weather we are having, the snakes are on the move. Keep a close eye out for these critters when you head down range to post targets. In addition, keep an eye out when you are getting into any of the storage sheds, you just never know where they are going to be.

CIVILIAN MARKSMANSHIP PROGRAM (CMP)

The CMP matches will start at 08:00 am every off-Friday till November. If you need more information about the shoots, CMP in general, want to be added to the shoot notification list, have a military-style rifle that you want to know if you can use, or need a rifle to use, call Gene Adamson @ 971-1531, or email at gene.adamson@ The following are some of the July scores.

PRACTICAL PISTOL LITE = ALTERNATE TUESDAYS

This new pistol event is in addition to the regular Wednesday match and is headed up by Tom Frickell (1-5493). We follow the regular Wednesday format, with less emphasis on speed to concentrate the less experienced shooters on safety, more safety, accuracy and use of concealment/cover. Once a shooter is comfortable with this method, they will be ready to try out the Wednesday match that practices safety, more safety, along with more emphasis on accuracy, use of concealment/cover, and speed to make it more competitive. This Tuesday match is mainly for the shooter new to practical pistol, those who are not into match competition, or those who cannot make the regular Wednesday match. This event has been a huge success and the participants have progressed at a very fast pace.

Schedule: August 8 & 22; September 5 & 19; October 3, 17

COWBOY ACTION SHOOTING (CAS)

This is the fastest growing shooting sport in the US and World. Once you try it you will know why it is so popular. Come out and join us or just watch. A full compliment of firearms used to compete includes 2 single action pistols (32 - 45 cal) with holsters, pre-1900s lever action rifle or clone in pistol caliber (32 - 45 cal), and a shotgun of 12 or 20 gauge side-by-side or 1897 style pump with outside hammer. You do not need all this to participate but it does make it more fun to shot all four guns per each stage. It would be suggested that you also become a SASS member.

We start shooting about 5pm and go to about 7pm. Meet at the Pistol House about 4:45pm to help set up targets. We do try to set up according to SASS regulations (Mark Rolfe and I have completed our RO 2 courses and have shot in competition) so you can go to a match around the US and not get DQ'd and understand the terminology. Please bring a friend (let us know ahead of time who it is since a couple of outside shooters have been banned from other ranges due to questionable ethics), you do not have to have the full compliment of guns to be able to shoot with us. If you bring a double action pistol, you will have to shoot it in single action mode. Also, lead bullets only, no jacketed or plated, including rifle bullets (must be of a pistol caliber). Keep your pistol ammo below 900 fps and your rifle below 1200fps. Contact Tom (1-5493 or Mike 1-1696). Regulars are Bill Munny, PeacePipes, Hoosier Desperado, Peno B. Scott, Cactus Gramps, Red Mesa Gambler, Snake Corville and Ranger Red. Sturdy Mike – where are you???

Schedule is: August 3, 17 & 31, September 14 & 28.
