Personal Statement (why do you want to serve on the AzAFP BOD, 200 words or less).
I have been active in organized medicine for the past 35 years. The time in the DoD with the US Army consumed most of my professional activities and I had withdrawn from many national activities. Now I am with the VA and have more time for professional activities. I am committed to the care of high risk populations and their families and communities. I have supported the AAFP in several areas with academic and clinical education interventions (co-authored the adolescent medicine fellowship standards in 1997-8, Clinical education in Illinois AFP, Missouri AFP, Kansas AFP and the AZ AFP. I was a national faculty in adolescent and young adult medicine for the Child and Adolescent Training programs. I would like to contribute to the continued improvements in clinical competence of family physicians in AZ. I also feel family medicine is at risk with several changes occurring in medicine at the state and national basis. Leadership in this area is of critical importance now.
