What’s Happening Now?

“The Sound” and the Bruhs of Zeta Upsilon!!!

Terrance A. Cobb

Alumni Secretary

Since our last newsletter, the Active brothers have been very busy helping “The Sound” in many capacities such as keeping the band room clean, and setting up for various ensembles are just a few day to day things we’ve done. At this point in the semester we are deep into our recruitment of new members for next semester.

Also, thanks to the Financial Committee, we have a number of fundraiser that has help to generate funds for the chapter. We have done things from car washes, to yard clean up. One of the high lights fundraiser of the semester was the Annual Kappa Kappa Psi brotherhood auction. This is the third year of the auction, but this years auction was a little different in that is was an event all to it’s self. In the past it was usually held during the Band Halloween Party, but the committee felt that the event took a lot of time away from the part and was big enough to hold it’s own as a solo event. The event was held at the house of brothers Chris Wildman, Jeremy Leach, Tim Stonestreet, Delquaddo Parker, Greg Putman, and Desmond Jones a.k.a “The House of Man”. The event was a great success and thanks to all the brothers how participated, but a special thanks goes out to brother Shannon Billings and his committee, for putting on such a classy event, to “The House of Man” for letting us use your home, and Brian Smith for designing such a fabulous poster!!!!

Sound of the South News

The “Sound” has been extremely busy since our last news letter. The month of October keep that band on the move. On top the bands normal performance schedule at Trojan Football games, the band was featured in 6 exhibition performances. Three of them coming in a week’s time which included a Thursday night Trojan Football. October 14th-21st 2005, was officially known as Hell Week!!! for the band. When it was all said and done the band survived putting on great performances all around.

“The Sound” had the opportunity to host the UAB Marching Blazer here at Troy the day of the game. This was a wonderful experience to socialize with members of The Blazer Band.

“The Sound” just recently went on its first overnight trip of the season, and as usual it was some exciting times. We arrived in Lafayette Louisiana at about 2:00 a.m. Saturday morning, after making a pit stop in Daphne Alabama to perform for the Daphne High School–vs-Davidson High School football game. Although the Trojan Football team lost the game in overtime, the trip was fun as usual. Next we will be traveling to Arkansas, with a two night stay in Memphis Tennessee. I am sure there will be many stories to tell from that trip.

Band Halloween Party

The annual Halloween Party was a night to remember. The costumes were very freaky, and some very scary, which made the night full of excitement. The members of CMENC present a raffle to cut of band member Zach Dobo’s hair. The winner of the raffle was Chris Jones, and Zach’s hair is being donated to Lock for Love. The sister of Tau Beta Sigma also stepped at the party, which for me personally is one of the best times I have seen the sister of Epsilon Xi step. Congratulations!!! Lastly the winner of the costume contest was Jay Carlen as “Quail Boy” from Nickelodeon’s “Doug”

Troy University Symphony Band-

Greetings fellow brothers and welcome to another exciting homecoming. I hope this newsletter finds you in good spirits and excited about homecoming this year. We have had an extremely busy fall with many exhibitions and a couple of away games and everything has been as smooth as possible. We are planning on visiting Dobar’s gravesite on Sunday November 27th for anyone who might still be in town after Troy’s last game on the 26th and we are likely to eat and fellowship afterwards. Keep on eye on the website for any activities that we have going on (kkp)

We look forward to seeing many of you at the middle and high school SEUS Honor Band Clinics and I hope that all of you will stop by to say hello and introduce yourselves to us. In closing, I hope you that we continue to make all of our alumni family proud as we continue to “Strive for the Highest” in all that we do.
