Licensure Email 2Hi MERGEFIELD First_Name ?First_Name?! This is licensure email 2 and will touch briefly on a few topics associated with your licensure: Professional development, Praxis testing, endorsements and out of state licensure. Warning this is a long, long email. I am sending this email a little ahead of schedule because of a link not working in the previous email regarding out of state licensure.Professional Development:If you have not done so, please upload all professional development certificates to your online licensure checklist. ? (You do not need to send me the certificates) There is a space for each certificate. Note: I cannot approve your licensure application if these modules are not complete. As a reminder, the modules required are below. Keep in mind course module numbers and titles may change. Modules are to be completed in the IDEAS portal: (see the hard copy of the checklist for instructions and link)Choose the most recent available module in a topic area:HWG14003: Dyslexia: A Three-Part Professional Awareness PIB14002 or PIB14003 or PIB14001 or PIB14004 or PIB14005: Parental Involvement: (Choose two of the offered courses) HWB17118: Act 1236 of 2011: Child Maltreatment HWB15058: Gatekeepers: Youth Suicide Prevention Awareness (Update 2015) Note: there are additional suicide prevention modules that you can choose but HWB15058 is the suggested module.Licensure Assessments:The state requires that you complete and pass the approved Praxis exams/and or other assessments (for example, if you are SPED or Elementary, you will also take the Foundations of Reading Test) designated for your licensure area. You cannot be recommended for licensure or have your application approved until you have passed your licensure assessments. If you have shared those scores with the university, we are able to pull them from the ETS database and will start recording your scores about a month prior to graduation. Hint: Your online checklist is a great place to communicate and document completion of required assessments! Your program should provide you with guidance on the suggested timeline for completing Praxis exams. The best situation for you is to have all passed prior to graduation. If you will extend past graduation time to take a Praxis, please document this in your online checklist and let us know the date you expect to take the exam(s). Endorsements: You are allowed to add endorsements in certain content areas. Some endorsements require a program of study and a Praxis exam. Some endorsements can be added by just taking a Praxis. If you are planning on seeking an endorsement in a particular content area and will be taking a Praxis, please document this in your online licensure checklist. We have information on our website on endorsements offered at the U of A on our website: Licensure in Other States: (includes a special Texas handout)Many of you are starting to ask about out of state licensure and what you can do now. If you are interested in obtaining licensure in another state here are some things to know:Research by Googling that particular state’s “department of education - teacher licensure” website. Usually a google search of that state and using either “teacher licensure” or “teacher certification” will reveal the link quickly. You will need to look for requirements for “out of state” applicants.? You can also use the list below to get started on your search.Read through that state’s requirements carefully. Most states will require that you have obtained your Arkansas license first before applying (Texas, we are looking at you!). Most?states will require that you complete an application, pay a fee, obtain new background checks for that state, and submit an official transcript, test scores and a copy of your test scores. The important thing to note is that while there will be many similarities state to state, there will be slight variations according to their states licensure laws. You might want to call and ask if there is anything you can complete right now.Applications must be made directly to that state's department of education by the student. This process typically will not begin until the degrees have posted and you have obtained Arkansas licensure. (i.e. Texas) The U of A licensure office does not submit licensure packets or applications to other states but in some instances the applications will have a section to be signed by the licensure officer to verify the completion of a program. In order to address teacher shortage areas and facilitate the movement of teachers among states there are agreements among states that make it possible for a teacher to be licensed in another state via reciprocity. It is important to understand reciprocity in regards to what it is and also what it is not. The National Association of State Directors or Teacher Education and Certification have compiled the most up to date information on these agreements. If you are moving out of state it is recommended that you visit the below websites in order to determine whether they have reciprocity and how it is defined in that state. What is an Interstate Agreement or Reciprocity? for Out of State Applicants (reciprocity by state) Departments of Education the next email– I will go over the application process and background checks specifically!
