WHAT'S NEW...

Dr. Sporn named Chairman of Cardiovascular Service Line

Daniel Sporn, MD, FACC, MHA has been appointed chairman of the cardiovascular service line. In this role, Dr. Sporn will lead the strategic planning, growth and operational success of the cardiology, cardiothoracic surgery and vascular surgery departments.

Dr. Sporn completed his undergraduate education at Cornell University and his graduate education and medical school at Georgetown University School of Medicine. He completed his residency and began his fellowship at Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital.

He completed his fellowship at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center. Dr. Sporn then joined The Guthrie Clinic as an Interventional Cardiologist in 1991.

Dr. Sporn has served on the Guthrie Clinic Board, the Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital Board and many committees at Guthrie. He has been chief of the Department of Cardiology since 2006. He has also served as the Cardiology Fellowship Director and will continue in that role.

Cardiothoracic Surgeon joins Guthrie Cardiovascular Team

The Guthrie Cardiac Surgery Department welcomes Dr. Christine McCarty.

Dr. McCarty graduated from the Medical College of Pennsylvania, where she also completed her residency in general surgery.

She completed her fellowship in cardiothoracic surgery at Allegheny General Hospital, in Pittsburgh, Pa.

She performs all types of cardiac surgery, with a focus on coronary and valve surgeries. Her area of interest, however, is coronary revascularization with emphasis on complex, minimally invasive revascularization and hybrid revascularization.

Dr. McCarty will be seeing patients in Sayre. She will perform surgeries at Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital.
