MEMORANDUM FOR MASTER LEADER COURSE LEARNERS SUBJECT: Welcome Letter for Master Leader Course Class 101-21

1. Congratulations on your selection to attend the Master Leader Course (Distributed Learning) Class 101-21. The MLCDL is a 42-day online course that focuses on topics such as leadership, management, operations, and communications. The course will assist you in preparing to transition from a tactical leader to an operational leader. Prospective students will benefit significantly from a review of the following publications: ADP 3-0, ADP 5-0, ADP 6-0, ADP 6-22, and JP 5-0. We hope you will find this course both academically challenging and professionally rewarding. The report date for your course is NLT 6 October 2020, 2359 EST. The Class start date is 7 October 2020. ***You must be enrolled in Blackboard by 6 October 2020 before 2359 hrs (EST), or you will be locked out and considered a No-Show.

2. APFT / HT & WT (the following information is extracted from the MLC CMP): Because this course has no resident portion, no APFT nor height/weight screening will be directly administered to students. Nevertheless, students must be in compliance with Army physical fitness and body fat composition standards outlined in AR 350-1, chapter 3, to attend this course.

3. To ensure students are in compliance with Army policy, each student must submit a DA Form 705 that records a passing APFT score. If the DA Form 705 weight data reflects that a student is overweight, he or she must also submit a current DA Form 5500/5501, stating compliance with Army body fat composition standards. Along with these documents, each student must submit a Memorandum for Record (MFR), signed by your Company Commander, verifying these documents. Students will submit these documents to their facilitator prior to the start of the course (via Blackboard), but MUST submit all required documents NLT 72 hrs (9 October 2020, 2359 EST) after the course start date. Students who cannot produce these documents verifying their compliance with Army fitness and body fat composition standards will be administratively disenrolled.

4. The Prerequisite Expository Essay (PEE) is a course requirement; therefore, you must complete and submit the essay. Follow the instructions on the Blackboard.mil page and submit your Pre Expository essay NLT 6 October 2020, 2359 EST, please note the following:

a. You will write clearly and concisely while using correct grammar, sentence structure, and word usage. You must provide a coherent transition from one topic to the next utilizing the provided rubric as a general guideline. Your essay must be in Times New Roman, 12 pt. font, double spaced, APA 7th Edition, STUDENT PAPER, No Running heads, and NO ABSTRACT, with a minimum of three pages, and no longer than five pages in length, not including the title and reference pages. The purpose of this paper is to allow facilitators to provide learners with feedback on their current writing ability. The PEE will be uploaded into Blackboard on a formulated Microsoft Word document.

b. IMPORTANT NOTE: The SHARP essay is not intended to re-victimize, initiate an unwanted emotional response, or inflict psychological stress on anyone. IAW DODI 6495.02, change 3, and Army Regulation (AR) 600-20, leadership (chain of command or NCO support channel) are always required to report any incidents of sexual assault. Disclosure of information pertaining to an instance of sexual assault in the SHARP essay will be immediately reported to the appropriate authorities outlined within the local SHARP reporting policy. The resulting report will be an unrestricted report.

c. This expository essay does not weigh into your final GPA, however, it is used to assess other areas of your Service School Academic Evaluation Report (DA Form 1059), please do the best that you can. d. Pre-execution checklist, (TRADOC Form 350-18-2-R-E dtd. 18 Apr 18). Please ensure the checklist is filled out according to your SRB and PULHES, along with the contact information for your Company Commander and First Sergeant. Your Company Commander must sign the pre-execution checklist before submitting it.

5. The following assignment is optional; it is not a prerequisite for MLC DL. However, completing this assignment, a practice Executive Summary (EXSUM), will give you an opportunity to receive feedback from your facilitator within the first 72 hours of starting MLC. Note, this assignment is part of the MLC curriculum and will be due at the end of Week 1. If you decide to complete the assignment, you will upload a Microsoft Word document following the naming convention and example: (MLCDL_Last Name_First Initial_Practice_EXSUM) MLCDL_Adams_K_Practice_EXSUM. You will then upload the Practice EXSUM in the Getting Started area by utilizing the link labeled Practice EXSUM.

6. Consider taking advantage of the opportunity to complete the JP 3-0 Joint Operations course as it will enhance your insight to the course and education as a lifelong learner. The following course is optional; it is not a prerequisite for MLCDL.

This course is a general overview of fundamental principles for joint operations and the application of operational art and design in the planning execution, and assessment of joint military operations. Course describes a systems perspective for organizing for joint operations. YOU ARE NOT REQUIRED TO TAKE THE EXAM. Undergraduate college credit is available, free of charge, for the successful completion of any DOCNET course and its accompanying exam. The American Public University System, a nationally accredited online university system, will grant one undergraduate credit hour in the military science category for each DOCNET course completed. Select College Credit from the menu to learn more. Note: Availability of this service does not imply an endorsement or sponsorship by the Department of Defense.
