The British Police Rugby Football Club have just returned from an historic first tour of Argentina and Uruguay in World Cup year with three victories and some great memories.The action packed tour commenced with a game against the Montevideo Rugby & Cricket Club in Uruguay winning 47 points to 12, followed by further wins in Buenos Aries against Lomas AC RFC by 59 points to 14 and concluding with a superb win in Rosario against Jockey Club, 40 points to nil.The 38 strong tour party consisted of serving police officers and staff from England, Scotland ,Wales and Northern Ireland.The British Police team play five fixtures a season against the Army ,Navy, RAF, Cambridge University and an emerging rugby nation, with an international tour every two years.The tour itinerary also included a number of cultural visits and a coaching clinic at St Georges College Buenos Aries for a number of school children.The British Embassy in both countries hosted the touring party to ?fantastic formal receptions at the Ambassadors residence.Prior to the professional rugby era all the home nations had serving police officers within their ranks who were full internationals and some went on to become British & Irish Lions such as Martin Bayfield, Paul Ackford and Dean Richards.At the end of the tour the squad donated their playing kit to the Atlas Foundation Project which aims to raise kids out of disadvantage through the power of rugby.Tour Chairman Frank Armstrong said “ This has been an experience of a lifetime for the whole touring party and the hospitality and warmth of friendship from the three hosting rugby clubs was just amazing and I would urge any club considering touring to try South America.
