Promotions and Reduction System

I. Promotions

During the year, the opportunity is given to earn points towards promotion and the JROTC letter. To earn these points, participation in JROTC activities such as fundraising, Competition teams, community service is a must. Points may also be earned by achieving a certain LET level and receiving bonus leadership points. It is the SOLE responsibility of the Cadet to track and record their points. The Promotion Work Sheet, (included), is to track and record participation in various activities and points awarded. The list is not all inclusive and additional events may be added as necessary to accurately track points.

Army Instructors have the unlimited discretion to promote or appoint to any rank, (impact promotion), at any time, regardless of GPA. When an impact promotion is given, the cadet will automatically receive the minimum points for that rank. Promotion points are cumulative. This means; points carry over from one school year to the next. Promotion will be determined at the end of each 9 weeks.

Recommendation for promotion must come from the cadet's immediate chain of command. Promotion recommendations to ranks E-8 and above, to include officers, will come from the JROTC Instructors.

Promotion Board members will consist of either the Battalion Commander or Battalion Command Sergeant Major as President and Company Commanders or First Sergeants or combination of both.

Cadet of the Quarter Board members will consist of the Battalion Staff with the Battalion Commander or Battalion Command Sergeant Major as the President of the Board.

Once earned, team arcs may be worn from one school year to the next as long as cadet maintains an active member status on the current school year’s team(s). JCLC and Cadet of the Quarter are the ONLY permanent arcs that once received, can be worn the duration of time a cadet is in the program. Only the Color Guard Competition Team is authorized the Color Guard Arc and cord.

IV. Determining promotion eligibility

At the end of each semester, total the points will be gathered from each category on the Promotion Work Sheet and submitted to the immediate cadet chain of command.

V. JROTC Varsity Letter

1st year Cadets (LET1s) who participate in at least 80% of the JROTC activities, community service projects and/or who competed on our extra-curricular teams and 90% for returning cadets (LET2s-LET4s) are awarded a JROTC Varsity Letter

VI. JROTC Stole (Seniors ONLY)

In order for cadet(s) to earn the JROTC Stole, cadet(s) must meet 4 out of 5 of the following criteria: be a LET 3 or 4, have GPA of 3.0 or above, have earned JROTC Letter, have successfully held a primary staff position, have participated on extracurricular team and earned eligibility for ribbon or arc.

VII. Merit/Demerit System: Leadership (LDRSHIP) Scores

Leadership scores are subjective weekly grades given by the cadets in leadership positions. The basis for this grade is LDRSHIP: L: Loyalty, D: Duty, R: Respect, S: Selfless Service, H: Honor, I: Integrity, P: Personal Courage. Examples that fall in the LDRSHIP category are: cadets wearing their Student Identification Cards (all day/each school day), wearing their uniforms (the entire designated school day), willingness to learn, participation in all class activities, completion of class assignments, and overall attitude. If all of these are intact, then the cadet will receive a 3 (A), or 100 points out of 100. If one of these is not up to full potential, the cadet will receive a 2 (B), or 80 - 85 points out of 100. If two or more of these are not fulfilled, the cadet will receive a 1 (C), or 70 - 75 points out of 100. If three or more of these are not fulfilled, then the cadet will receive a 0 (D), or 60 - 65 points out of 100. If the cadet receives a Leadership Score of “0” from an Army Instructor, then the “0” will be recorded as a “0” in the gradebook. If a cadet disagrees with their Leadership score, they must immediately address it with their student chain of command. If the disagreement cannot be resolved between the student chain of command, then the Instructors are to be notified. The Army Instructors will not allow any abusive practices of leadership scores to take place. The Army Instructors may override any cadet leadership score, if deemed necessary.
