Bonita Middle Center for the Arts 2020 -2021 REGISTRATION WORKSHEET GRADE 6 Student schedules are crafted to first meet academic needs and to comply with class size regulations. After those needs are met, elective courses will be filled based on their availability and the student’s priority ranking. Please make elective selections below. Student Name______________________________________________________Student ID________________ Elective Course Selections All 6th grade students will be enrolled in Health and Computer Apps. These courses are each a semester and contain our Transition to Middle School curriculum and Health. All students are required to take one semester of Physical Education during each year of middle school. Select THREE (3) electives in order of preference. Number them from 1 to 3 (1 being first choice). A numerical selection does not ensure a seat in the class. Elective classes are offered if there are a sufficient number of student requests and if funding is available. Year Long Electives Elective Choice (1-3) Band Choir AVID Yearbook Orchestra Semester Long Electives Art in World Cultures Piano/Guitar Intro to ActingIntro to DanceIntro to STEM TV Production Elective Course Descriptions Beginning Band: This course is intended for the student with no experience in instrumental music that has a STRONG desire to learn one of the standard school band instruments (flute, oboe, bassoon, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, French horn, trombone, baritone, tuba, or percussion). This course is typically reserved for 6th and 7th graders. Beginner through advanced level musicians are welcome! Mastery learning of skills through performance utilizing method book and standard band literature is expected and all performances occur outside of the school day. This is a yearlong class. 6th General Choir: This course is open to any student interested in learning the proper techniques associated with vocal production. Performance of STANDARD choral literature is the focus of this class (not pop music). Posture, breathing, diction, annunciation, ear training, and part singing are all emphasized. Beginner through advanced level singers are welcome! Mastery learning of skills through performance of standard choral literature is expected and all performances occur outside of the school day. This is a yearlong class. Beg Orchestra: Have you ever wanted to learn to play a stringed instrument? Well, now is your chance. No experience required! Learn the violin, cello, or other assorted stringed instruments. We will help you find the right fit. This is a yearlong class. Piano/Guitar: No musical experience required. In this beginning music class, you will learn piano basics. This will include correct finger placement and intro to reading music. This is a semester long class. Art in World Cultures: Ever wonder how art started? How it developed around the world? Want to learn how to create a variety of different art in styles from printmaking and painting to paper Mache based on artwork from a dozen different cultures? If you answered yes, or you’ve never taken art in middle school before, then this semester-long course is the right one for you. This is a semester long class. Intro to STEM: This class will introduce you to the exciting world of science, technology, engineering, and math. You will learn to imagine, create, test, and improve many challenging projects. Build bridges, launch rockets, code computer games, and more! This is a semester long class. AVID - Which stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination, is a college-readiness program designed to help students develop the skills they need to be successful in college. The program places special emphasis on growing writing, critical thinking, teamwork, organization and reading skills. This is a yearlong class. TV Production - The purpose of this program is to introduce students to the beginning workings and possible careers as television production operators, television broadcast technicians, camera operator, and all other professional/para-professional technicians, video recording engineers, audio recording engineers.?This is a semester long class.Intro to Acting - Through simple scripted scenes, performance projects, and/or practical application, students learn to identify what makes performances believable and explore the tools used to create, articulate, and execute them.? Public performances may serve as a culmination of specific instructional goals. This is a semester long class. Intro to Dance - students in this semester-long, entry-level courses, designed for those having no prior dance instruction, learn introductory information regarding the following: the role of dance(s) in history and culture; a variety of dance styles, which may include modern, ballet, jazz, folk, tap, hip-hop and various world dance styles; and, the body, major bone and muscle groups, how they function in dance movements, and the importance f proper health and nutrition.
