Art 5 Course Description: Art 5 is an independent studio course consisting of advanced studies in Visual Art. Students develop a personal theme or concentration to explore within the context of nine units on various topics and media. Pre-requisites: Art 1, 2,3,and 4 or IB Art 1.

Requirements:

• Conduct yourself in accordance to the policies of the school and art room. Teacher interventions will be allocated according to the level of violation in accordance with the school handbook.

• Come to class prepared with your materials every day. Required materials are due one week from the first day.

• Although the majority of the time will be spent drawing, painting, and such, you will also take notes, read books, and have tests just like any other class.

• Complete all projects and sketchbook homework on time. (major projects lose 10 pts. a day for being late) Homework may not be turned in late.

• Work to your highest potential each and every day. Your effort is the most important factor to your success in this class. Do not worry about your Art skills. Worry about your work ethic.

Materials:

Required: Sketchbook, Portfolio 12” x 18” or larger (bought or made), Pencils, and signed syllabus

Useful but not required: Drawing pens, paintbrushes, container for supplies, canvases, quality art paper, pastels, acrylic paint. PLEASE understand that for the majority of the projects in the Art 4 curriculum, you will be choosing the media. This means that many times you will need to go out and purchase your own selected supplies.

Grading:

• Test Grades (Art Projects and Tests) – 70%

• Daily Grades (Sketchbook, Notebook, Class work and Homework) – 30%
