BOARD SUMMARY

A meeting of the Board of Education was called to order in the Library at the Marion Jr.-Sr. High School at 7:00 P.M.

An opportunity for community questions and comments was given. A parent expressed some concerns with transportation safety.

Several Board members attended activities throughout the district including budget forums, Elementary Open House, the

Jr.-Sr. High School Band Concert. Mr. Estochen did some statistics using the recent school report cards and

concluded that only Wayne had better test results than Marion and Williamson was almost equal with Marion.

He also included Webster, Penfield and East Rochester and only Penfield scored better than Marion. Mrs.

Schoonerman announced that Petitions for the position of Board of Education member were available and need

to be returned by 5:00 PM on April 18, 2011.

Mrs. Wegman recognized Mr. Reimer for becoming a Certified Administrator of School Finance and Operations (SFO) by the Association for School Business Officials (ASBO) International. This certification is granted to highly qualified individuals who fulfill multiple requirements, including passing a comprehensive two-part exam that tests competency in accounting and school business management topics, and adhering to the ASBO International Certification Code of Conduct. Mrs. Wegman discussed the State of the State and reported that the State Budget has been passed and that Marion would be getting an addition $38,000 in aid. She reported on the recent budget forums and felt that the Board and Administrators received good information. One of the main concerns that were expressed was the elimination of summer school. The administrators are trying to create a different type of summer school using grant money.

Mrs. Wegman reported on the Budget Advisory Committee held earlier in the evening. The committee reviewed the line item budget and budget brochure. The budget will be adopted at the next Board meeting.

Mr. Reimer reviewed two budget transfers that needed Board approval. He also led a discussion on the recent Transportation Study. The Board asked if we were going to use anything that is mentioned in the study. The administrators will be analyzing the recommendations and give a report at the first May meeting. Mr. Reimer also reviewed the results of the auditing firm interviews. Mr. Cramer attended the interviews and felt that everything went well.
