Program ReportDRI Report – Odessa College Updates -Dr. Myers: Welcome and thank you for coming today. Leadership and Management BAAS degrees have been approved. Students can choose either a Safety or Entrepreneurship pathway. They have to have associate’s degree and the Bachelor is geared toward working individuals. 24 students have currently applied. Kelby Davis, Dr. Oscar Gonzales, and Jessica Jordan are all teaching. Financial aid is available. The classes will be the same price as the associate’s degree classes, which is a huge cost savings. The 60 by 30 movement is when 60 % of the population by 2030 will have some sort of credentials. On March 31st, Administrators, some Board members and myself will travel to DC for Aspen announcement on April 2nd. Results of 2017 was livestreamed for all OC and will be again at the Sports Center for all. The first place winner gets $600,000 in prize money toward success initiatives. I have been the ASPEN chairperson since 2014, and we have all worked hard. It is a privilege to be recognized as one of the top 10 Community Colleges in the nation. Recently, had a conversation with Sewell about credit classes, adjuncts, and their “Sewell Leaders” program- an intensive 2 day class (14 years has been offered). It starts in July and we are possibly infusing into the OCTECHS auto program for the “Sewell” mindset. Rob: There will be a career fair on April 7th and we would love for you to be there. Tables still available. New BuildingDr. Myers: Hoping open by August 19th. Enrollment Report Rob: We have 139 in automotive and 50 students in diesel. New BusinessReview of program changes – HandoutPerformance Data /MLRRob: 40 students in SP2 safety passed their certificate. Course 1301-students have to go through safety scenarios for 8 weeks. 14 passed 609 certification plus 14 more students going through now. Changing level to MLR to follow ASC path. Marcie Tambosky: Is 1301 a contact hour’s class for 8 weeks?Dr. Myers: Yes, but taught at schools by ECISD instructors. Hour changesASE EducationASSETDr. Jennifer Myers: Ford is specific in the ASSET program- initial thinking. Emmanuel: MLR is offered by Ford, will get those sooner by us. Pete: Is the ASSET training online?Adrian Vega: Yes, live and the real deal, instructing hands-on pre-cursor, then the certification through the ASSET program. Dr. Myers: These are 8 week classes with 8 week co-op, what about the hours they spend at coop?Adrian: I don’t know the flexibility, maybe 2 tracks, maybe a morning class. ASSET discussion among members.Rob: California has a Ford high school program. Strictly focused for the high school, and they want students to move smoothly right into their job. Pete: 3rd year students will take half a semester class, then half a year of working. There are 3 students at Sewell. Rob: ASSET master level, the masters AST program with currently 950 hours would need to add an hour to classes, but getting more practice and then get masters certification. We’re offering hybrid classes: studying at home then applying their knowledge in labs.Pete: MLR program through ECISD. Rob Turner: Your classes won’t change contact. Hours will now be going from 5 to 7 hours working in the lab. Pete: Are we accredited through NATEF?Dr. Jennifer Myers: When we move to the Sewell building. Emmanuel Lopez: When would that be?Rob Turner: Spring 2020.Program PoliciesDr. Myers: Proposal submitted to administrate team. Now it’s up to them. Much of the information was by using feedback from the industry and advisory leaders. Rob: Build policy in place from the start. It would be like in an actual industry/job. Proposal state now, but we need your feedback. Adrian: Framework would be the standards of OC and then incorporated the AVID policies. Dr. Myers: A couple of different programs have different needs and expectations above and beyond OC handbook. Plan ASSET would have its own handbook. Mr. Sewell would have input and requirements built into the handbook. Rob: This one is safety and conduct. Soft skills are being taught earlier. These are in regards to the industry standards, consequences for not following. Would like to give shop tours, students go early on in program and visit functioning shops, with people physically working. Rob: If we did this, what would be the size of the tours?Pete: About 30.Emmanuel: 10-15, max 20 students. Rob: Please look the handout over and give any thoughts or feedback. Mr. Roberts has been doing the Ford ASSET and working toward setting this up. Student starter kits would include uniforms and boots. Dr. Myers: Any vouchers? We need to go through the bookstore. Rob: Not at this time. Marcie Tambosky: OCTECHS students will need to tell us.Dr. Myers: If they go through the bookstore then they can get financial aid. Adrian: This needs to be in the handbook with a list. Rob: There will be 4 kits total. The first one would be 1301 safety kit, the second one would be electrical, the third one would be hand tools, and the fourth one would be sockets. Our goal is to make students as hirable as possible. Emmanuel: Huge to have tools.Rob: A lot of industry/shops in P.B to offer vouchers to help with the offset cost. Teaching quality products, professional grade tools, helps OC budget and makes them accountable. Pete: Price of each kit?Dr. Myers: We are working on this. The bookstore will have a markup. By breaking it up if the student backs out of the program then they haven’t spent so much money all up front. Currently don’t buy for culinary either. Marcie Tambosky: We have a lot of culinary things at Frost. We are working on spreadsheet to present for the budget expenses, and help students with cost. Dr. Jennifer Myers: Approximately $3000. Rob: This includes CDX software too! Tools of the trade. Marcie Tambosky: If we don’t know we can’t budget and this is due by Friday. Dr. Myers: We will send that out and culinary as well. Discuss Internships and SponsorshipsRob: We are going to have some different needs. We need industry partners because unfortunately we are about 10 years behind. Ford hasn’t gotten back with us, so I am not sure. Have an email about ASSET program to see what they are providing. In Fall of 2019 and Spring 20, we will be offering 16 week minimum internship classes. If you have room we would like to have our students with your businesses. Emmanuel: We can make room. Rob: What can we do for you?Pete: Schedule a meeting with all the instructors, to get all of them onboard. Rob come talk to Dual Credit students.Marcie Tambosky: Add Mr. Luna on the ECISD email. Rob: Thank you all for coming and if you have any input or feedback on the Handout or meeting, I’ve attached my card with phone number and email address.Adjourned at Meeting adjourned at 1:30 pm. ................
