2ND FLOOR CHRISTIANITY
Acts 1:12-14 (King James Version)
12 Then returned they unto Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is from Jerusalem a sabbath day's journey.
13 And when they were come in, they went up into an upper room, where abode both Peter, and James, and John, and Andrew, Philip, and Thomas, Bartholomew, and Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon Zelotes, and Judas the brother of James.
14 These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren.
Acts 1:14 (King James Version)
These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren.
INTRODUCTION: In order for the New Testament Church to return to where it started there must be another “upper room” experience for God’s people.
The answer to any barren condition is found in the upper room.
❑ Barren as described by Webster:
o Non—productive
o non—ability to bear fruit
❑ As we examine the early days of the church of Jerusalem, we see how that they started off in over—flowing productivity. The secret or the key to this is in Acts 1:14, “with one accord.”
❑ I want you to see these three words expanded to our day and our ministry.
ONE ACCORD IN PRAYER. ACT 1:14
A. They continued with one accord in prayer.
B. YOU can’t separate prayer and productivity. The two go together.
C. Lack of prayer brings lack of power.
1. “All power is given me”. Matt. 28:18.
2. “Ye shall receive power”. Acts 1:8.
3. “Ask and ye shall receive.” Matt. 7:7.
4. Why is our church simply not a burning fire for God?
❑ Because there is so little prayer.
← If you are barren it is because you are not praying.
← The secret of failure is our failure in secret prayer. Someone once said, “Prayer moves the hand of God.”
❑ These 120 people were serious in their prayer
❑ They wanted something to happen. Let’s get together in one accord in this matter of prayer and all pray for the same thing and that is that souls be saved BY GOD GRACE.
IN ONE ACCORD IN ONE PLACE.
❑ Acts 2:1 (King James Version)
And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.
A. In verse 2 we see the coming of the power of God, the Holy Spirit.
1. They were all filled individually and simultaneously.
2. What if some of them had been somewhere else.?
3. What if this had been the week—end for about half of them to go to mom and dad’ s house?
4. What if a dozen or two of them had bought a new boat and wanted to go try it out on the lake that day?
5. What if the Boy Scouts had planned a week—end camp—out?
6. What if some of them had had a softball game?
7. They were all together, in one accord, in one place, and the power of God fell upon them.
B. When you aren’t here you miss what God has for you that day.
1. Elijah was to go to the brook of Cherith. The ravens were programmed by God to go there with food. I Kings 17.
a. Supposing Elijah had gone to SOME OTHER PLACE.
← He would have missed the food.
← The ravens went to Cherith.
b. When you go somewhere on Sunday you will miss what God has planned for you.
IN ONE ACCORD IN THEIR VALUES.
❑ Acts 4:32 (King James Version)
And the multitude of them that believed were of one heart and of one soul: neither said any of them that ought of the things which he possessed was his own; but they had all things common.
A. The value of their individual contribution.
1. What they had was God’s.
B. The value of God’s work.
IN ONE ACCORD IN THEIR VISION.
A. They all saw the same thing.
1. They saw a hell — hot, long and suffering.
2. They saw a heaven.
3. They saw a Saviour pleading.
4. They saw a need to reach everyone they could.
5. They saw the possibility of reaching the entire city and later the world.
❑ 120 were in their group
A. Acts 1:14&15,
❑ The next day, 3000 were added.
❑ Acts 2:41.
❑ 5000 men were added Acts 4:4,.,
❑ Multitudes were added Acts 5:14.,
❑ Multiplied greatly Acts 6:1—7.
❑ Historians say the Jerusalem church exceeded 100,000 members.
