ASSEMBLE IN GOD¡¯S NAME

PRAYER OF PREPARATION

Lord God, we come to worship you, our Creator, Redeemer, and

Sustainer. When we look around, we see you: within ourselves,

beyond ourselves, in the eyes of another. When we listen, we hear

you: in the words of children, the rush of the wind, the music of

life, the babbling of a stream, the rhythm of a heartbeat. When we

cry, you cry with us. When we rejoice, you rejoice with us. When

we gather, you are with us. As we worship, may you be glorified.

Amen.

*CALL TO WORSHIP

Praise be to the Lord, the Creator of heaven and earth!

We sing songs of joy with gratitude to God, the giver of all

good gifts.

Our help is in the name of the Lord, the Redeemer who has saved

us.

We bring our sighs and heavy burdens to God, the giver of

rest.

As we come into God¡¯s presence, we pray for our burdens to be

lifted and our songs of praise to be received.

Come, Holy Spirit, bind us together, removing all that

separates us from one another and from God.

The love of God for us is from everlasting to everlasting,

Come, let us worship the Lord with gladness!

*HYMN OF PRAISE ¨C No. 796

Verses 1 & 2

¡°We Come to You for Healing, Lord¡±

We come to you for healing, Lord, of body, mind, and soul,

and pray that by your Spirit¡¯s touch we may again be whole.

As once you walked through ancient streets and reached

toward those in pain, we know you come among us still with

power to heal again.

(Please be seated.)

CALL TO RECONCILIATION

PRAYER OF CONFESSION

God of world leaders and neighborhood children, we hear

your words every day, but we rarely live them out. Our anger

easily surges like a flooded creek, but our forgiveness drips

like a rusty faucet. Words of judgement rush to our lips, while

words of hope get diverted by rocks of objectivity. We hear

the cries of the poor as though, like the roar of the ocean, they

are unable to be quieted.

Living Water, may your mercy fall on us like a summer

shower on parched grass; may your hope overflow the banks

of our hearts. Risen Son, speak to us and call us to life.

KYRIE

Lord, have mercy upon us.

Christ, have mercy upon us.

Lord, have mercy upon us.

ASSURANCE OF PARDON

*GLORIA PATRI ¨C NO. 581

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost:

as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world

without end. Amen. Amen.

*AFFIRMATION OF FAITH

from the Second Helvetic Confession

Faith is a pure gift of God, given by the Holy Spirit, by means

of the preaching of the Gospel and steadfast prayer. Our

salvation is not a result of our good works, rather works

necessarily proceed from faith. For good works grow out of a

living faith by the Holy Spirit and are done by the faithful

according to the will or rule of God¡¯s Word. These works are

not done that we may earn eternal life by them, for eternal life

is the gift of God, but they are done for the glory of God and

the profit of the neighbor. For our Lord says, ¡°Let your light

so shine before others, that they may see your good works and

give glory to God.¡±

PROCLAIM GOD¡¯S WORD

PRAYER OF ILLUMINATION

FIRST READING

Psalm 124

If the Lord had not been on our side¡ªlet Israel say¡ªif

the Lord had not been on our side when people attacked us, they

would have swallowed us alive when their anger flared against us;

the flood would have engulfed us, the torrent would have swept

over us, the raging waters would have swept us away. Praise be to

the Lord, who has not let us be torn by their teeth. We have

escaped like a bird from the fowler¡¯s snare; the snare has been

broken, and we have escaped. Our help is in the name of

the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.

This is the Word of the Lord!

Thanks be to God!

SECOND READING

James 5:13-20

Is anyone among you in trouble? Let them pray. Is anyone happy?

Let them sing songs of praise. Is anyone among you sick? Let them

call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them

with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer offered in

faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up. If

they have sinned, they will be forgiven. Therefore, confess your

sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be

healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.

Elijah was a human being, even as we are. He prayed earnestly that

it would not rain, and it did not rain on the land for three and a half

years. Again, he prayed, and the heavens gave rain, and the earth

produced its crops.

My brothers and sisters, if one of you should wander from the

truth and someone should bring that person back, remember this:

Whoever turns a sinner from the error of their way will save them

from death and cover over a multitude of sins.

This is the Word of the Lord!

Thanks be to God!

Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.

PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE

Please remember those on our prayer list.

THE LORD¡¯S PRAYER

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy

kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as

we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but

deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power

and the glory, forever. Amen.

OFFERTORY ANTHEM

¡°Let This Day Be Filled with Wonder¡±

Living God, we praise you for the day that you have made; for the

life that you have given, for the church that you have called,

Alleluia!

Let this day be filled with wonder; let our lives proclaim the

message; let your church sing out the news that Christ, our Lord

and Savior is risen from the dead! (David Gambrell)

*DOXOLOGY

Praise God from whom all blessings flow.

Praise him all creatures here below.

Praise him above, ye heavenly host.

Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.

*PRAYER OF DEDICATION

God of Resurrection, you transform darkness to light, death to

life, despair to hope. Every element of our lives that is good is

a gift from you. How can we possibly respond? We offer you

our lives and our resources. Show your compassion through

us. Tell your story through us. Reveal your love through us.

Transform this world through us. In Jesus¡¯s name. Amen.

*HYMN No. 800 ¡°Sometimes a Light Surprises¡±

Verses 1, 2, & 3

Sometimes a light surprises the child of God who sings; it is

the Lord who rises with healing in his wings; when comforts

are declining, he grants the soul again a season of clear

shining to cheer it after rain.

In holy contemplation we sweetly then pursue the theme of

God¡¯s salvation and find it ever new; set free from present

sorrow, we cheerfully can say, ¡°Let the unknown tomorrow

bring with it what it may.¡±

It can bring with it nothing but he will bear us through; who

gives the lilies clothing will clothe his people, too; beneath the

spreading heavens no creature but is fed; and he who feeds

the ravens will give his children bread.

*BENEDICTION

*SENDING FORTH HYMN No. 826

¡°Lift High the Cross¡±

Verse 4

Lift high the cross, the love of Christ proclaim till all the

world adore his sacred name.

So shall our song of triumph ever be: praise to the Crucified

for victory. Refrain.
