Whether you are an alumni, an employer or a friend of the University, the benefits for hosts may include:

Building Your Brand: The REALM Program introduces students to your organization and its commitment to informed career choices. Upon return to campus, REALM student participants will become an unofficial ambassador for your organization once they are able to learn what it takes to succeed at your organization!

Recruiting UB Talent: You may find your next star employee through the REALM Program! Student participants who have insider knowledge of your organization will be excited to apply for full-time or internship opportunities within your organization.

UB News

The UB Offices of Career Services and Student Engagement are seeking hosts to allow UB students to shadow them/their company/their co-workers at their work place on Wednesday, November 8th as part of the REALM program. It's a great introduction for the students matched to experience what a day at work is like at your company and in your positon. It is also an opportunity for you/your company to build your brand, give back and/or recruit UB talent. More detailed program information is below my message from Carrie Johnson in Career Services.

For questions, please contact Carrie Johnson at caj7@buffalo.edu or 645.4630.

The REALM program includes a structured matching process that connects students with one-day shadowing opportunities for career exploration, an introduction to the world of work and experiencing how leadership is used in a work place setting. REALM opportunities will not result in academic credit or monetary compensation, yet REALM hosts and student participants greatly benefit by this experience.

4

Giving Back: Your advice as a professional is invaluable to students wishing to gain information about a career field.

If you are interested in serving as a host, please sign up on the REALM Host Interest Form. The program format is below:

Wednesday, November 8, 2017: 8:00 AM Breakfast meet and greet with students at UB Student Union (North Campus) 8:30 AM Depart for the day of shadowing at host worksites (we can provide students with transportation if needed) 9:00 AM Career and leadership shadowing at host worksites 4:30 PM Wrap-up and head to Networking Reception (Location is TBD and we can provide students with transportation if needed) 5:00 PM Networking Reception (Location TBD) 6:00 PM Brief remarks from UB officials 6:30 PM Program concludes (we provide students with transportation back to campus)

ASM ? The Materials Information Society

On Wednesday November 15, ASM will have John Laurence Busch talk about "Building the First 'Steamship' in History: an Engineers Presentation" which should be a sweet discussion of how steamships changed the world- geopolitically, economically, industrially, everything. John's website is , and there's a LOT of information there on this fascinating bit of history. That night is ASM Buffalo's vendor night, where we honor the people who advertise with us- so we're motivated to get a talented speaker highlighting something of strong general interest with an engineering twist.

That meeting will also start about 5:30 with dinner about 6:30 to 7PM, speaker afterward.

Meetings are free, dinner is $25 for adults $10 for students- we charge non-members the member price, because we like them. Chuck Lafountain at Diamond Saw is our Reservations Guru, and he's at clafountain@.
