Meeting was moved from the Aspen A Classroom to the Cholla Conference Room. Meeting began at 5:36pm with twenty-one attendees. Welcome- Introduction of members, guest and students from Chamberlain and Grand Canyon University. DiscussionTreasurer Report:Treasurer report given by Lynn Untermeyer. Currently the bank account is at approx. $15,000.00. The bank account is balanced accurately.Bylaws: Kathy Wruk brought the revisions of the bylaws to the member’s meeting. They were reviewed by members present. Motion made by Martha Carrillo to accept the new revised bylaws. Seconded by Marilyn Barnett. Motion carried. Revised Bylaws will be submitted to the AzNA Bylaws committee for review.Promise of Nursing May 2nd Highlights:Sponsored by Johnson and Johnson to help raise funds for scholarships for Nursing. Please visit web pages for further information.Chapter 30 sponsored five members to this year’s Promise of Nursing Luncheon. Marilyn Barnett, one of the recipients, shared her experience. Guest speaker Captain Mark Kelly emphasized Courage, Faith, and Persistence. Also, the main messages from the conference was ”Never give up” and “Fight to get what you want.”Scholarships:Chapter 30 received over 90 applicants for the $500.00 nursing scholarships for the fall semester 2014. Three of the four winners were present and given their scholarships: Mykaila Hartman, Kelly Schultz, and Larissa Lyman. Nicole Burca (unable to attend) was mailed her scholarship. $500.00 Spring Scholarships applicants will be accepted Sept. 15-Oct. 15, 2014. Please visit AzNA web site: chapters/eastvalley for further information. AzNA Symposium October 24, 2014:The symposium is a one day event at a cost of $129 for members. In July, Chapter 30 will be drawing to sponsor a one year member to encourage their professional development.Upcoming Events:National Nurses Half Marathon & 5K:Helene Neville, Founder, has made it her mission to make a difference by promoting health and wellness for healthcare caregivers. She will be hosting the 2nd National Nurses Half Marathon 5K October 9-11, 2014. Chapter 30 participated last year by sending volunteers to work a water station. The Board has voted to send 10 volunteers, with board members having first priority, than general members, to work this year’s water station for the runners. Volunteers must be current Chapter 30 members. This year’s theme is “Penguins in the Desert”. Applications for volunteers can be found on Chapter 30’s web page starting in July.CE Guest Speaker:Carla Sutter, MSW, Executive Director at Senior Bridge Scottsdale presented on the topic “Dealing with Difficult Family Dynamics”, providing ways to assess family strengths and weaknesses and ensuring the smoothest working relationships for all involved.Member meetings: The next two members meetings are scheduled for September 4 and December 4 at Banner Desert Medical Center, Aspen A Classroom.Board meeting:Next board meeting will be July 10 at 6:00pm, Paradise Bakery, Tempe Marketplace.
