Dear Families:

Welcome to our new and returning families to Harwich Elementary School (HES) and Monomoy Regional School District. As a new school year begins, we invite all of our students, parents, guardians, and community members to be a part of the home, school, and community partnership necessary for success. We join you in supporting a learning community where all learners achieve high levels of academic success while also promoting the social, emotional, and physical growth of each individual learner.

Each new school year is a wonderful time full of enthusiasm, renewed energies, and the anticipation of what will be created in the months to come. This year will be no different, and this year, we will continue to move forward on the district's Strategic Plan by moving ahead with the 2017-2018 HES Schoolwide Improvement Plan. Both of these documents were created and approved as collaborative efforts from all stakeholders, and HES is committed to continued growth on these improvements in alignment with our overarching District mission, vision and theory of action:

Mission Statement: Monomoy Regional School District is a community of learners of all ages focused on building knowledge, positive character, and resiliency in a safe, supportive, creative, and challenging environment. Vision Statement: Monomoy is committed to being an exemplary school district, inspiring students to become civic-minded in their decision-making, confident in their communication, flexible in their problem-solving, creative in their expression, resilient in their response to challenge, attentive to global responsibilities, and ready to succeed in the future. Theory of Action: We share a vision of high student expectations and effective teaching, deliver an interdisciplinary curriculum which provides appropriate levels of challenge for each learner, foster strong parent and community partnerships, and promote and celebrate the achievements of all, in order to create a supportive, positive Monomoy culture that will inspire all learners.

1. Strategic Objective: Develop engaging, appropriately challenging, and interdisciplinary curriculum. 2. Strategic Objective: Strengthen parent and community partnerships in support of student learning. 3. Strategic Objective: Support learners of all ages in a supportive and safe environment. 4. Strategic Objective: Create an inspiring, positive culture that promotes and celebrates achievement.

The 2017-2018 HES Schoolwide Improvement Plan. has four focus areas-- School Council Improvement , Family and Community Engagement, Supporting all Students as Learners and the continued development of High Quality Core Curriculum and Instruction. This September, the School Council elections will be held during our Curriculum Nights on September 19 and 20, 2017. We invite you to volunteer as a nominated parent member, or to attend our school council meetings to offer opinions as we move forward with these focus areas this school year.

Sincerely,
