Topics will include, but not be limited to: linear and quadratic functions & applications, probability, statistics, & data analysis, number concepts & properties, expressions, equations & inequalities, graphical representations, properties of plane figures, measurement, exponential and logarithmic functions, conic sections, and trigonometric functions and equations.. Lessons will be designed to guide students through mastery of the Anchoring SAT and Common Core State Standards; a framework for which the SAT exam and most college entrance exams are based upon. Attendance: Attendance is critical to any student’s success. Students will notice that excessive absences will cause them to fall behind in learning the required course material. This will impact assessment grades negatively. Students who are tardy to class will be ineligible for full participation points for the day, and will not be able to submit any work that was completed or collected during the time the student was not in class.Practice: Students will be assigned practice daily. Practice is intended to prepare students for future class sessions and reinforce previously learned material. This is a time for students to strengthen their skills. Students should spend approximately 20 minutes each night on finishing classwork or reviewing the day’s lesson. The text we will be used in class only. All work for the assignments must be organized in a notebook. Assessments: Assessments will be given often throughout the semester, both summative and formative. The students will be required to correct and explain corrections on all formative assessments. Summative assessments grades will be final. There will also be a cumulative final exam at the end of each semester.Makeup Policy: Any student who is given an opportunity to complete a makeup assessment must do so during the assigned time. If a student has an excused absence, he or she has the amount of days absent to make up any missing practice or tests. It is the responsibility of the student to check for nightly practice and/or tests missed. Unexcused absences will result in a zero for all assigned work, including tests. If a student earns an In School Suspension, it is their responsibility to turn in the work for that day and make up tests on the day of the In School Suspension! If a student earns an Out of School Suspension, it is their responsibility to check for missed work and to turn in all practice missed on the day you return to class! Grades: An active learner is most important to developing understanding. Guided Practice will account for 15% of the grade and will consist of homework and classwork (late work will have points deducted/ Honors- late work not accepted). Quizzes will account for 30% of the grade (students will have an opportunity to make corrections and increase scores on Quizzes up to 3 days after the quiz is returned). Assessments will account for 40% of the grade (this includes Unit Exams and Projects). There will be no corrections allowed on any assessment. Final Exam will count for 10% of the grade.
