1.0 SCOPE OF WORK
The work covered by this specification includes the design, testing, and quality control required for the proper production of an emulsified asphalt seal coat product.
2.0 GENERAL
This specification applies to asphalt based seal coats, intended to be used for sealing various asphalt surfaces.
3.0 DESCRIPTION
The seal coat material shall be a plant blended product composed of mineral aggregates, select fillers/fibers and specific additives uniformly distributed, proportioned and mixed in a petroleum-based asphalt emulsion.
4.0 BASE EMULSIONS
The asphalt emulsion shall conform to ASTM D977, SS-1h. The properties of the emulsified asphalt given in table 1 shall be determined in accordance with ASTM test methods D244.
5.0 TESTING REQUIREMENTS
The seal coat materials, undiluted except as noted, shall conform to the following requirements:

(1*) Weigh 10 grams of homogenous product into a previously tared small ointment can lid. Place in a constant temperature oven @ 325 F for 90 minutes. Cool, re-weight and calculate non-volatile components.
(2*) Mineral aggregate components shall conform to AB 3098 SMARA compliance list as published in the California Regulatory notice register.
(3*) Determined by flow table apparatus, 25 revolutions.
PRECAUTIONS
Air temperature shall be 55oF and rising. Do not apply if rain is forecast within 48 hours after application. Asphalt should be thoroughly cured before application. New asphalt should be allowed to cure at least 30 days before application. Do not apply if rain is forecast within 48 hours after application. Wash tools in water. Use paint thinner if material has dried. Keep from freezing. Do not store indirect sunlight or where temperatures exceed 100oF. Container should be closed when not in use. Keep out of reach of children.
Due to the wide range of variables affecting the results of application, such as weather conditions, construction equipment, and quality of other materials, there is no warranty, expressed or implied, that following this specification, or using the materials covered thereby, will assure satisfactory results.
