|Purpose of this assignment |

|This unit aims to provide you with an appreciation of the underlying principles of storytelling |

|and how they can enhance a player’s immersion in the game world. You will develop a |

|sound understanding of game story - writing strategies before applying them to their own |

|interactive narratives. |

|Scenario |

|You will develop an understanding of how to use elements such as narration, dramatic tension, monologue and dialogue to serve the purposes of their game story |

|and will apply their observations of human attitudes and emotions to the development of convincing characters for your game concept. |

|In this task you will go through the scriptwriting process. You will research an idea, produce a proposal, and pitch that proposal. |

|2.1 Initially create an idea for a computer game story that is imaginative and original idea that has a story theme and quest/goal. A story that has a distinct |

|conflict and developing complications, the possibility of a MacGuffin and twist withins the plot. |

|2.2 Use storytelling components imaginatively to create a fluent and compelling computer game story that can be told in either a linear or nonlinear storylines.|

|The storytelling elements must incorporate a plot device or devices, game player actions and three act structure that defines the setting, has elements of |

|suspense that builds to satifactory resolution and climax. |

|2.3 You have to create a cast of characters including, an antagonist, protagonist, guardian, sidekick, player |

|character, non-player characters that have well developed back-stories, are identifiable character types and propel the narrative forward. |
