JOB TITLE: Finance Assistant Director

DEPARTMENT: Finance Department

CLASS: Regular Full-Time/Covered-Non-Exempt

SALARY: D.O.E.

POSITION SUMMARY:

An Assistant Finance Director is responsible for assisting the Finance Director in managing, directing and supervising the activities of the Accounting Department and for performing highly complex professional-level accounting analysis. An employee in this class provides input to policy development/revision activities and is expected to explain/interpret policy to other employees in the Accounting Department and to employees in various Tribal Departments. This position must have detailed knowledge of accounting and all laws relating to grants and contracts.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Maintains and reconciles assigned general ledger accounts on a monthly basis and resolves differences.

• Records, classifies and summarizes financial transactions and events in accordance with GAAP and GASB within the reconciliation process.

• Reconciles sub-ledgers and resolves differences.

• Assists with reconciliation of general asset account group to inventory and general ledger.

• Administers program budgets and all modifications including calculation of fringe benefits.

• Reports on assigned grants and contracts.

• Assists with Audit Prep.

• Posts journal entries as needed.

• Assists with maintaining policies of the Finance Department.

• Supervises Department in absence of the Director.

• Maintains grant files as assigned.

• Complies with Federal, Tribal and State (when applicable) regulations.

• Other duties as assigned as specified by the Finance Director.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Education & Experience:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting OR closely related field as determined by the Finance Director from an accredited college.

• Documented 3-5 years accounting and supervisory experience.

• Experience with federal, state and local grants and contracts.

• Experience using Microsoft Office Suite with a focus on Excel.

• Documented experience using General Dyamics or other finance related software.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• Knowledge of self-insurance.

• Strong financial budgeting, critical analysis and quality control/assurance skills.

• Knowledge of the Super Circular

• Familiar with NAHASDA

Other:

• Must have a valid Driver’s License and be eligible for the tribe’s insurance.

• Submit to and pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol screening and random test thereafter.

• Must pass a background investigation and have an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card.

• Must be able to attend trainings and travel.

• Must be able to maintain confidentiality.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• CPA

• CGFM

• Experience with OnBase.

• Familiar with Housing Data Systems.

• Comprehensive knowledge of the principals, methods, and practices of governmental financial administration, including budgeting and reporting.
