We achieved a successful operation via a three-tier tracking system I devised that covered areas we were graded on by our ownership group: Employees (opinion surveys, turnover, HR paperwork orderly and to governmental standards), S.A.L.T. Scores (Guest Satisfaction as tracked in the Hilton network), and finances (forecasting, budgeting, procurement systems, and cash flow). This was an Executive Staff position.Hilton Houston Post Oak, 448 roomsIntern, Front Office Manager? August 2003 – February 2006As part of a successful team I was a manager in the rooms division as the property underwent a flag-changing transition from Doubletree to Hilton. I served as the HHonor liaison at the property, learned to schedule according to need, operated the procurement system and oversaw the purchasing of items for the front office, including the executive lounge which serves as a business center and Food and Beverage outlet. Most importantly, I oversaw training for the department and helped the staff learn to multi-task while assisting them in the learning process so they could move on and be successful in their future endeavors. There were between 35-45 employees at any given time I directly oversaw. I also served as the manager on duty many times on the weekend, holidays, and during the evenings.Sheraton Suites Houston, 286 rooms Intern, FD Agent, FD Supervisor, Omaha Steakhouse Intern April 2000 – December 2003I began learning the hotel industry while with Starwood. My internship included food and beverage, front desk, bellman, concierge, IT, engineering, housekeeping, driver, and PBX. After the internship I was hired on full-time as a front desk agent. I then moved to a supervisory role one year later where I oversaw approximately 20 employees directly and served as the manager on duty for the property several times. This is where I gained valuable management tools so as to effectively oversee others and assist them in setting and meeting goals. Marriott Waterway – The Woodlands, TXIntern, Housekeeping DepartmentApril 2002I assisted in the property opening by working in the housekeeping department cleaning rooms, putting supplies in the rooms, and checking each room to make sure it met Marriott standards with the proper supplies. MTV (television station), Making the Band internshipNovember 2000I learned aspects of communication, how to handle large crowds, customer service, and how to deal with celebrities and larger than life personalities while working directly under Lou Pearlman, the man behind groups such as The Backstreet Boys, O-Town, N’Sync, and LFO. Tasks included checking in and helping artists complete applications and choose music to audition with.USA Films, Universities Representative (sales and communication)December 1999 – October 2000I learned to manage large crowds and work with third-party vendors. My duties included marketing at university campuses in Texas and holding movie premieres. I worked with local radio stations and advertising agencies to successfully market films such as Pitch Black, Nurse Betty, and The Bachelor to name a few. The Daily Cougar, Beat Writer September 1999 – August 2002The Daily Cougar is the daily campus newspaper for the University of Houston. I learned to write for emphasis, manage deadlines, and work with others for the successful completion of a daily newspaper with more than 12,000 copies daily in print during the business week. I had up to four stories in one edition of the newspaper and published more than 120 articles in my tenure with the Daily Cougar.Academic Employment HistoryTeaching ExperienceWinter 2013: Instructor for HTM 4130: Best Practices in Sustainability: Field Course in Costa RicaWinter 2013: Instructor for HTM 2100: Lodging OperationsWinter 2013: Instructor for HTM 2070: Meetings and Convention Management Fall 2012: Instructor for HTM 4500: Hotel Consulting and EvaluationFall 2012: Instructor for HTM 3060: Lodging ManagementFall 2012: Instructor for HTM 1000: Introduction to Hospitality and TourismWinter 2012: Instructor for HTM 2100: Lodging OperationsWinter 2012: Instructor for HTM 2070: Meetings and Convention Management Fall 2011: Instructor for HTM 3060: Lodging ManagementSummer 2011: Co-Instructor for RPTS 489: Attraction and Destination Management and Development; Co-Instructor Paul SerffFall 2010: Instructor for RPTS 201: Foundations of Recreation and Park (online course)Summer 2010: Instructor for RPTS 340: Recreation, Parks, and Diverse PopulationsSummer 2010: Instructor for RPTS 301: Leisure and Outdoor RecreationSummer 2010: Co-Instructor for RPTS 489: Attraction and Destination Management and Development; Co-Instructor Paul SerffSpring 2010: Instructor for RPTS 304: Administration in Recreation and ParkFall 2009: Instructor for RPTS 304: Administration in Recreation and Park.
