ASSISTANT DIRECTOR

(Temporary)

The Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations (OFSAA) is an organization comprised of high school student-athletes, teacher-coaches, teachers, principals, and sport administrators all committed to the philosophy of “Education through School Sport”. Our primary responsibility is to work with volunteer teacher-coaches to provide top-quality Provincial Championships for Ontario's student-athletes. We also play an important role in providing other programs and services that support coach education and school sport at the provincial and local levels.

Job Summary

The assistant director plays an integral role in the management and delivery of the Federation’s programs. Working closely with volunteer councils and committees he/she ensures high quality programs are developed and implemented that respond to the needs of students, teacher-coaches, schools, and eighteen member athletic associations.

Principal Duties

Reporting to the executive director, the assistant director will:

• Work with championship convenors to manage the delivery of eighteen girls’ championships, one co-ed championship, and one festival.

• Represent OFSAA at championship coaches’ meetings, banquets, medal ceremonies, and competitions.

• Coordinate Sport Advisory Committee meetings and provide support, assistance, and advice to those committees. Liaise with Provincial Sport Organizations to ensure the Sport Advisory Committees are aware of issues, opportunities and trends.

• Manage all details of the OFSAA Coaching Symposium.

• Contribute articles and promotional material for inclusion in the OFSAA magazine, The Bulletin.

• Plan and organize training sessions for championship convenors.

• Attend meetings of the Committee for Girls’ Activities, Representatives’ Council, Executive Council, Gender Committee, Championship Review Committee, Future Directions Committee and other committees as required. Provide information, guidance and support to these volunteer groups.

Qualifications

• Degree or diploma in the field of Sport Management, Kinesiology or Physical Education, or Bachelor of Education. New post-secondary graduates are welcome to apply; minimum of two years experience in a similar field is preferred.

• Proven ability to work with a variety of different personalities in a non-profit, volunteer setting.

• Knowledge of the Ontario education and sport systems. A teaching background with experience in school sport is an asset.

• Bilingual in English and French is an asset but not required.

• Valid driver’s license.

This is a sick leave replacement from August 2014 until approximately February 2015.
