|This post is intended to make a significant contribution to research and teaching capacity in the Department of Education, with a |
|particular focus on applied linguistics and the Teaching of English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL). The postholder will be a |
|member of the department’s Language and Educational Practices research cluster, and will be expected to contribute to teaching and |
|supervision at Masters level (particularly on the MA TESOL programme) and Doctoral level. |

|Main duties and responsibilities |

|a |Establish own area of independent research, leading the development of objectives, projects and proposals, commensurate with |
| |the strategic objectives of the Department of Education |
|b |Participate in collaborative research projects as appropriate |
|c |Identify sources of funding and secure funding for own research programme, commensurate with the strategic objectives of the |
| |Department of Education |
|d |Write papers and submit for publication to appropriate research journals, and disseminate research findings using other |
| |appropriate media |
|e |Present research at national/international conferences and/or at other appropriate events |
|f |Maximise non-academic impact from public engagement with research undertaken, including knowledge exchange activities as |

|a |Teach courses (particularly on the MA TESOL programme) and supervise dissertations using appropriate teaching, learning |
| |support and assessment methods and technologies |
|b |Design and plan effective and inclusive teaching and supporting learning activities |
|c |Contribute to course development and the development of new programmes of study, demonstrating an inclusive approach to |
| |delivery |
|d |Assess the work and progress of students and provide them with constructive feedback |
|e |Seek ways of improving performance by reflecting on teaching design and delivery, and obtaining and analysing feedback |
|f |Develop innovative approaches to improving the learning environment, teaching and/or assessment and feedback methods |
|g |Engage in professional development in relation to teaching, learning and assessment, including the use of an |
| |evidence-informed approach, which utilises the outcomes of research and scholarship, to enhance practice |

|d |Act as supervisor for the work of others, such as research teams or projects, and/or as doctoral supervisor |

|All appointments to Lecturer posts are subject to three years’ probation and successful completion of the Bath Course in Enhancing |
|Academic Practice (Bath Course). Individuals may be granted exemption from the Bath Course and/or probation at the University’s |
|discretion. |
