Job Title: Assistant Professor in Politics and International Relations (teaching and learning focus) (fixed-term)

School/Department: School of Politics & International Relations

Contract Status: This post is available from 1 September 2015 and will be offered on a fixed-term contract until 31 January 2017.

Salary: £34233 to 45954 per annum depending on skills and experience. Salary progression beyond this scale is subject to performance

Location: University Park

Responsible to: Head of School

Job outline: To carry out teaching and administration

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

• Plan and deliver high quality taught modules to undergraduate and postgraduate students

• An ability to teach undergraduate and postgraduate students in the area of security and terrorism.

• Supervise BA and MA dissertations

• Examine assessments for first and higher degrees as required

• Provide pastoral support to personal tutees

• Be responsible for administrative duties as specified by the Head of School, in areas such as student recruitment, admissions, examinations, pastoral care, placements and teaching quality assessment

• Seek and secure external and internal funding for teaching-oriented activities as appropriate

• Undertake further training consistent with continuous professional development

• Any other duties as requested by the Head of School appropriate to the role and level

Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications and Experience

• First Degree and PhD or equivalent in relevant area

• Extensive knowledge and understanding of the field of Politics and International Relations as it relates to the advertised post

• Ability to teach at all levels of the undergraduate and postgraduate curriculum

• Ability to relate to students in terms of teaching and pastoral care

• Ability to undertake a variety of School administrative duties, as specified above

• Experience of teaching in HE in the UK or at a comparable level in another country

• Good interpersonal and organisational skills

• Commitment to teamwork and collegiality
