Resumes and cover letters

RESUMES-

Where can you find job openings? Hospital HR department, online search engines, word of mouth, RT journals. You will need to have a job opening turned in with assignment. 1 point on assignment

Resume should be 1 page- no more… no less 5 points on assignment

5 Major parts of a resume

1) PERSONAL INFORMATION- Top of the page. include your name and it should be larger than the rest of the font. Also include address, phone number and email address. Make sure your email address is something professional. You can always get a free account just for job searches.

2)OBJECTIVE- very important to have a good objective. It should state what you are looking for in a job. DO NOT USE “ To obtain”…. Show some good examples:

3) EDUCATION- list most recent first. If you have college you do not need to include high school. You can use it as filler if the resume is too short. List dates attended, honors, location of school, area of study and awards received

4) EMPLOYMENT- dates employed, employer, position, location, list responsibilities if pertinent to healthcare.

CLINICAL EXPERIENCE- additional heading can be used to combine Rad clinical externship with other healthcare employment.

5) CERTIFICATIONS/ LICIENCES/ OTHER – Include any certifications, licenses, specialized training include dates they are valid (or obtained if they do not expire) and numbers.

REFERENCES- “available upon request” is phasing out. You can use it as a filler. ALWAYS ask someone before using them as a reference.

Dear Mr. (or Ms.) last name,

Start your letter with a grabber—a statement that establishes a connection with your reader, a probing question, or a quotable quote. Briefly say what job you are applying for.

The mid-section of your letter should be one or two short paragraphs that make relevant points about your qualifications. You should not summarize your resume! You may incorporate a column or bullet point format here.

Your last paragraph should initiate action by explaining what you will do next (e.g., call the employer) or instigate the reader to contact you to set up an interview. Close by saying “thank you.”

Sincerely yours,

Your handwritten signature
