Prerequisite: successful completion of Algebra II
Materials: These materials are expected to be in class on a daily basis:
Covered textbook
Graphing calculator (TI-83, TI-83 plus, or TI-84)
3 subject notebook or 1” binder w/paper for warm-ups and assignments
Graph paper
Straightedge
Red/green checking pen or highlighter
Pencils, pencils, pencils !!!
Course Description and Content: The content of this course includes, but is not limited to the
following: Collection and organization of data, hypothesis testing, description of data, probability, simulation, correlation, regression, and expected values.
Level: Merit level courses are designed for students who generally meet or exceed the
objectives and expectations of the essential curriculum, both in terms of content
knowledge and application. Coursework includes a balance of concrete and abstract material, with an emphasis on both teacher directed and independent work. Successful completion of this course will prepare students for post-high school education.
Career Pathways: This class teaches skills that would be good preparation for any of the six
pathways due to it’s collection and analyzing of data. The two it would be most closely helpful for is Business Management Systems and Natural Resource and Agriculture pathways.
Behavior Expectations:
1) Be in your seat working on the warm-up when the bell rings.
2) Attempt all work. (Completing all work is expected.)
3) Respect fellow students and staff at all times.
4) Follow directions the first time they are given.
5) Follow all school rules.
Consequences:
1) Warning
2) 30- minute detention w/ parent contact
3) Office referral.
Grading: The grade for the term will be determined as follows
Tests 50% Quizzes 35% Assignments 15%
The grade for the semester will be determined as follows:
1st term 40% 2nd term 40% Final exam 20%
Grade Progress: Grades will be updated periodically and after each unit test. Please check for
progress on Pinnacle. Students are encouraged to seek extra help in class and
outside of class whenever necessary. I am available for questions most days after
school until 2:50, except when mandatory meetings are scheduled. Parents can
contact me by either phone or email using the information on the front whenever
any questions or concerns arise.
Attendance Policy: Students are expected to be in class, on time everyday. If an absence is
coded unexcused, all work completed that day will receive a grade of 0%,
including quizzes and tests. Please remember to have notes written to excuse
your absences and to show the admit slip to the teacher.
Make-up Policy: Students will be held responsible for everything that is assigned when they are
absent. The students should check with me the next day back for any missing work. After five days all missing assignments receive a grade of 0%. Test and quizzes may only be made up after school or during lunch.
Bathroom Passes: Students will be allowed two bathroom passes for the semester. Please use
them wisely. No planner, no ID, no pass.
Calculator Misuse: At NO TIME will students be allowed to share calculators or other materials
when taking a quiz or test. Game playing on the graphing calculators will not be
tolerated. First offense will result in the clearing of the memory and a phone call
home. Second offense may result in the loss of using the graphing calculator.
Cell Phones: Any student suspected or caught using text messaging during class time, especially
during a quiz or test, will automatically receive a zero for the assignment. The phone will be taken and given to the appropriate administrator.
