PINE COUNTY

PROJECT ATTEND

Project ATTEND is a Truancy & Attendance Diversion Program involving the Pine County Schools, Health and Human Services, SCRED, Attorneys Office, Probation, and the Sheriff's Department. Project ATTEND's goals are to reduce truancy rates and improve school attendance. Students are truant whenever absences or tardies do not conform to your school districts attendance policy. By law, all children must get proper full-time education. Having a good education will help give your child the best possible start in life.

RE:

ABSENCES TARDIES TRUANCY

Dear:

Please find enclosed a copy of your child's school attendance report. Because the average student misses seven days of school for the academic school year, we want to bring to your attention the total number of absences your child has to date. A student is referred to Project ATTEND when their absences exceeds eight days not including approved vacation days and verified medical, dental, or therapy appointments. Your child will also be referred to Project ATTEND if they have missed three unexcused days to school.

If after reviewing your child's attendance report you find errors, please contact the school's attendance clerk to correct those errors. If you do not contact the school by phone, letter or email stating your child is absent and give reason they are coded as unexcused.

If your child is experiencing difficulties in wanting to attend school or you feel there are added concerns regarding mental health, peers, or chemical use, we would like to provide support and assistance to you and your child.

Please contact me regarding your child's school attendance. I will plan to meet with your child on any further absences.

Sincerely,

Cheryl Bjerke
