You have chosen to create a diorama for your state project. For this project you will need to use a shoebox and your creativity to make a representation of the state you are reporting on. Some ideas to use in creating your diorama would be to incorporate state landmarks, tourist attractions, state bird, flower, nickname or motto. What are the people of that state known as? You might want to include land formations, and even sports teams or public figures from your state in your project as well.

Geography Project: Art from my state

You have chosen to create a piece of art that is popular or unique to the state you are reporting on. This artwork can replicate the work of a local artist or it could be artwork that reflects the unique qualities of your state such as the artwork of Grant Wood in his farmland paintings or Georgia O’Keefe from Wisconsin known for flower portraits. Be prepared to share information about your artist and the inspiration for their work. You may also choose to create a work of art that is popular due to the people and resources in the area such as pottery in New Mexico and Arizona. You may use any art media but YOU must be the artist!

Geography project: 3-D map of your state

You have chosen to create a 3-Dimensional relief map of your state. This relief map will show land formations and bodies of water that are found within your state. You should also incorporate some landmark features or tourist attractions that have been added by the people who reside in your state. Your relief map should be created on a sturdy piece of cardboard that is 11X18 inches. Please do NOT make your map any larger or points will be deducted! You may use salt dough or Crayola air dry modeling clay. Add to your map by incorporating color. Paint your state with various colors to identify your state’s rivers, lakes and mountain ranges. Include a map key and a compass rose as well.

Geography Project: Artifacts

You have chosen to bring in a decorated paper grocery bag of at least 10 artifacts (no more than 15) that will allow your classmates to make inferences in determining important facts and features of your state. Your bag of artifacts should include items that represent things that are unique to your state, its people and geographical features. Make sure to include artifacts that represent the culture of your state as well as items that reflect important resources from the area.

Geography Project: Power Point

You have chosen to create a power point presentation of your state. Your slides should include the state title, state bird, state flower, state flag, your state’s date of statehood, and other interesting facts about your state as well as popular features or landmarks. You may enhance your slides with images, sounds, and other features to that make your presentation attractive as well as informative.

Geography Project: State Float

You have chosen to create a state float to celebrate the rich heritage and emblems of your state. You will use items such as cereal or shoe box and cover with color paper to serve as the body of your float. You will add symbols, diorama figures, etc to show state features such as the state bird, flag, flower, tree, or emblem. Famous landmarks and attractions should also be included. Decide on a theme or design for your float and create a rough draft BEFORE starting your actual float. Use your imagination and make it as attractive as possible.
