Fourth Grade Footnotes
Parents, I want to let you know that I was not here in the afternoon this Friday. On the days that I am not at school it is your child’s responsibility to make sure they have the assignments copied off of the board and they will need to bring their work home to be checked. I wanted to make you aware of this situation. Also, next week we will be back to our full week schedule, which means the children WILL HAVE their regular Spelling, Language, and Reading.
Help!!! Please send in items for our
“CHRISTMAS WRAPPING” themed basket!!!
Dear Parents and/or Guardians, we currently have an empty basket!!!! We are in desperate need for items to fill our “CHRISTMAS WRAPPING!!!” basket. The fall festival is Saturday, October 27 from 2-4 p.m. at the elementary school. Please help us fill our basket. Possible items to donate might include: wrapping paper, ribbon, bows, tape, gift tags, Christmas bags, tissue paper, Christmas stickers, etc. Have fun and I look forward to making a wonderful basket with all of you!!! Many thanks in advance, Mrs. Hemberger
This Wednesday, we went to the elementary school to meet with our kindergarten reading buddies for the first time. The children were paired with their buddies and did an activity that was consisted of the children getting to know one another. The fourth graders were wonderful with the children and I think they all had a lot of fun. I hope you enjoy the pictures of the children working together.
We have been germinating seeds in Science and we also dissected flowers to examine the parts of a flower. The students all learned the importance of each part of the flower after they examined the different parts to the male and female parts of a flower.
We would like to wish Miss Kaity a very HAPPY 10th BIRTHDAY!!! Kaity turned 10 on October 2. I’m so…sorry I was not here to help you celebrate, Kaity. I hope you have a great birthday.
On Monday, October 1st we had our 4th grade assembly to recognize all of our students for doing a great job in several different areas. I would like to go through those areas and congratulate those children once again on a job well done. The children who did not have any late work for September are as follows: Alexis, Justin, Kaitlyn, Carter, Bailey, Drew, Morgan, Emily, Tyler, Leisl, Kaity, Joseph, and Conner. Accelerated Reader winners in my classroom for the month of September were Alexis for the girls and Carter for the boys. These students earned the most A.R. points in our classroom. Carter was the top overall boy in the entire 4th grade which meant that he had the most A.R. points of all the 4th grade boys. Congratulations to these two students and I hope to see the rest of my class pick up a good book very soon. The character trait for the month of September was “RESPECT.” I have several students who are respectful so it was very hard to choose two students for this award. I gave the award to Alexis and Drew because they are very respectful each and every day. Congratulations to all my students!!!
Parents, I want you to know that it is never too early to start preparing your child for the I.S.A.T. tests. You child and utilize a program for home called “STUDY ISLAND.” To go to this website you child will need to type in . Here they can begin to practice for the fourth grade I.S.A.T. tests that will be coming up this spring. The child’s user name is the first two letters of their first name, then their entire last name, with no spaces, then the at sign followed by CUSD10. The CUSD must be in all caps. For example, my first name is Tricia and my last name is Hemberger so my user name would look like this trhemberger@CUSD10. Their password is the child’s lunch account number. If your child is new to the district the password is trojans. When they log in they will need to change their password to their lunch account. This site will definitely help them perform better on their I.S.A.T.
Students need to remember to copy all of the assignments off of the board and cross off the assignments that they get finished in class. Remember, students, you can bring home your work to be checked by your parents. Parents, please check your child’s work. I have a lot of grades that could be improved greatly if they were checked at home. The only work that cannot be checked by your parents are the Smart Responses, Language quizzes, and tests.
We have been learning all about plants in Chapter 2 during Science. We have been germinating seeds in class and we learned that seeds do not need sunlight or soil to germinate. The just need carbon dioxide, moisture, and warmth. Abbey was kind enough to bring in moss for us to examine. The moss did not have any spore cases as it is fall. Hopefully, we will remember to look for spore cases on moss in the spring.
The children have also been asking me how to find out if a book is A.R. (Accelerated Reader) or not. If you would like to know whether or not a book is an A.R. book you can search the following url: . Remember to use my website to help you with useful websites.
Our school is once again collecting Box Tops for Education. Please send all of your Box Tops to school. The money collected from the Box Tops goes right back to your child’s education. Thank you for your help!!!
Remember that you can keep track of your child’s Reading Selection Test scores simply by going to and logging in using your child’s name and password. You can find your child’s user name and password in their binders located in the reading section. Simply go to enter your child’s name and password, as it appears on the paper. Then you will go to another screen. From there you will need to click on “Parents.” In the box that says “View Student Progress” you will need to choose Mrs. Hemberger-Reading Success Tracker 2008 G4. Here you will be able to keep track of your child’s reading test scores.
If you are sending in a cake or a cookie cake for your child’s birthday please make sure that it is precut. It is very difficult to get 21 slices even and I do not have a knife in my classroom.
If you are sending in cash for lunch money it needs to be sent to school in an envelope with the students name on it, their lunch account number, and my name. When cash gets put in the envelope the secretary does not know who it comes from and which account to credit. Thank you for your help with this matter.
Don’t forget to order your books from Scholastic Books on-line. Simply go to click on the parent button and enter my code, which is L7GDY. Happy ordering!!!
