The William and Hilda Burkhardt Scholarship Fund was established by Hilda Burkhardt to support the education of descendants of the siblings of Hilda and her husband William. Her desire was to encourage Christian parochial education beginning in elementary school and beyond and also support those

preparing for ministry and other higher education and vocational endeavors.

The Elementary School Scholarship is awarded annually. Selected students will receive a scholarship to

defray the cost of pursuing an education at an accredited Lutheran other accredited

hristian Elementary Schools.

ELIGIBILITY AND CRITERIA INFORMATION

APPLICATION PACKET POSTMARK DEADLINE: MARCH 15, 2017

ELIGIBILITY

• A qualifying candidate must be a Descendant, able to trace his or her lineage directly to a Sibling of William or Hilda Ohlhauser Burkhardt.

• Eligible candidates include legally adopted children of a Sibling or Descendant. Documentation may be requested.

WHO MAY APPLY?

• Eligible applicants entering or continuing in an accredited Lutheran or other Christian Elementary School.

HOW DO I APPLY?

• Complete all pages of the Application Packet. Maintain a copy of the Completed Packet.

• Send the original Completed Copy, pages 2 - 8, postmarked no later than March 15, 2017, to:

• Enclose or email a current quality picture such as a school picture. Pictures of the recipient are displayed in the Ohlhauser- Burkhardt Scholarship Record Book and on the scholarship website. Section VII, "Getting to Know You," is displayed in the Scholarship Record Book and with your permission, is published on the website, for all family to enjoy.

WHAT IS THE TIMELINE FOR NOTIFICATION AND FUNDING OF AWARD?

• Applicants are informed by April of recommendation for award. Reporting forms and a Renewal Application is sent directly to all approved candidates. Funding is considered after the end of the first academic grading period and after March 15,, the due date for documentation. By May, candidates will receive their check. The award is based upon receipt of:

← Official transcripts following the end of the first academic period to confirm basic requirements have been met:

← Full time Enrollment,

← Earning a minimum of 12 units

← Earning a minimum G.P.A. of 2.5 or equivalent.

← "Tell Us About Your Year: essay. Note: To receive the maximum award of $2500, the essay must be thoughtful, well-written, and address the prompt provided.

IF I HAVE RECEIVED AN AWARD, MAY I REAPPLY THE FOLLOWING YEAR?

• Students, who have met the funding may submit a Scholarship Renewal Application which is sent directly to current awardees. Current school records are required for consideration. Note: New qualified applicants may have priority over students who have previously received an award.
