ASSOCIATED STUDENT BODY

The Associated Student Body organization (ASB) is a democratic organization of students. The duties of this organization shall be to organize and coordinate activities of clubs and classes, promote curricular and co-curricular activities, provide effective student representation, and monitor student funds. Every student at Rainier Middle School is a member of the ASB.

ASB CARDS

All students at Rainier will receive an ID card at no cost. The photograph that is taken on Picture Day will be mounted on this card. If you plan to participate in after school athletics, clubs, band, or orchestra you will be required to purchase an ASB sticker for your card. This changes the ID card to an ASB card. The money from the sale of ASB cards goes to help support activities for Rainier students. Students presenting an ASB card at school events normally pay a lower ticket price. ASB cards may be purchased in the Main Office from Mrs. Bloom. The cost is $15.00 per school year. Please carry your ASB or ID card with you at all times. There is a charge for replacement cards and time is needed for processing. Replacement cards are available only while supplies last.

ATHLETIC EQUIPMENT, CLASSROOM MATERIALS, & TEXTBOOKS

Each student is responsible for the textbooks and equipment issued to them. Fines will be assessed if they are damaged or not returned to the assigning teacher, coach, or advisor. Students sign out individually numbered books and are expected to return that same book at the end of the year (quarter). Students not returning the correct book at the end of the year will be assessed a fine. Books should be immediately protected with book covers. Athletic equipment is also numbered and athletes are required to return the assigned pieces at the end of the season to avoid a fine. Athletes are responsible for returning equipment directly to the appropriate coach.

ATHLETICS

Athletic Progress Reports: Academics and behavior are important responsibilities for all student athletes. In order to be eligible to participate, each week students must have all of their teachers evaluate their schoolwork and behavior as either satisfactory or unsatisfactory. Students will turn in the Athletic Progress Report to the assigned coach each Monday during the season.

Disciplinary Actions: Any student athlete who is assigned after school discipline is required to serve that discipline before going to practice. Student discipline will be assigned the next day and could impact practices and games. Discipline will NOT be moved to accommodate practices and games. At the coach’s discretion, after school detentions may or may not impact student’s game playing time. Those student athletes assigned Extended Detention, In School Suspension, or Home Suspension will not participant in the next game due to their inappropriate behavior at school.

Requirements to Participate: All student athletes will be required to purchase an ASB card and have a physical examination and a signed Concussion Form, Cardiac Arrest and A Code Form on file. Athletic physicals will be good for two consecutive years. All other forms must be signed every year. If you are an incoming 6th grader, you must get a physical after July 1st to participate in Rainier athletics. You must submit a completed Auburn School District Athletic Registration Form and all other yearly forms to the Main Office before participating in any way. (Available on-line or at school)

ATTENDANCE POLICY

Regular attendance is a major contributing factor in reaching the instructional objectives of a course. The laws of the State of Washington specify that students shall be regular and punctual in their attendance; and that parents have the primary responsibility for ensuring the attendance of their children at school. The following procedures are designed by Rainier Middle School to develop cooperation between parents/guardians and school authorities to assist students in establishing lifelong habits of reliability and promptness.

Early Dismissal/Late Arrival: All students who arrives late or who leave before the end of the school day must check in/out through the Attendance Office. A written request signed by the parent/guardian or phone call from home stating the reason for late arrival or early dismissal is required. Missed buses, oversleeping, or running late do not constitute excused late arrivals.

Excused Absences: Please help your child clear all absences by sending a note with your child upon his/her return to school or calling the Attendance Office at (253) 931-4855. Students will be allowed one day to clear an absence before it is referred to the administration as truancy. Illness, family emergencies (i.e. funeral or serious illness), and appointments of a medical, dental, or legal nature represent excused absences. No student will be allowed to attend or participate in school-sponsored after-school activities when absent more than half the day.

Homework Requests & Make-up Work: If absent from school for a legitimate reason, it is the student’s responsibility to check with teachers at an appropriate time and arrange make-up work. Requests for homework for multiple day absences may be made through the Attendance Office (253 931 4855) or through Family Access. Please allow 24 hours for assignments to be gathered from teachers. Time does not allow for homework requests for a single day’s absence.

Parental Absences: RCW 28A.225.0101 places the responsibility of student attendance on the parent or legal guardian. Absences, other than those defined as excused, given with the permission of the parent or legal guardian, are considered parental absences. Parents/legal guardians should understand that any absences will affect academic progress. For this reason, we recommend that parents plan ahead with pre-arranged absences.

Pre-Arranged Absences: Absences for parental reasons may be excused if by presenting a written notice to the Attendance Office prior to the planned absence. While the school may excuse the absence, the student and parent/guardian should understand that academic progress could be adversely affected.

Truancy: Truancy is defined as an absence from school or class without the knowledge and consent of the parent/guardian or an absence from school or class once arriving on campus without the knowledge or consent of the school staff. Students may be denied the opportunity to submit academic work when truant. Students are subject to discipline up to and including long-term suspension for truancy.

Tardiness: A student will be considered tardy when he/she is not in his/her designated area at the start of the class according to the posted classroom policy. If a student arriving tardy does not have a signed pass, the tardy will be considered unexcused. And the student will receive an infraction and be subject to progressive discipline. It is the responsibility of the student to obtain a pass prior to leaving the previous staff member. Students arriving ten or more minutes tardy to class without a pass will be considered truant from class. Staff members detaining a student longer than one minute beyond the end of class will provide an excused pass to the next class. Students with continued late arrivals and/or unexcused absences will be subject to an Attendance Contract at the discretion of school administration.

BICYCLE, SCOOTER, AND SKATEBOARD POLICY

Students are allowed to ride their bicycles to school. They are expected to lock them up at the bicycle rack. To ensure the security of all bicycles, the bicycle rack is off limits during the school day. Students should know that King County law requires helmets to be worn for safety at all times. Bicycle safety lights and locks are available to check out during the school year in the library. Students may not ride scooters and skateboards on school property.

BOOK BAGS & BACKPACKS

Book bags must be stored in student lockers and may not be brought to class. Backpacks with wheels are not allowed since they do not fit in our lockers.

BULLETIN BOARDS

All posters are to be approved by Mrs. Bloom before they are placed on a bulletin board wall. Nothing may be posted on campus without permission.

BUSES

All students must act maturely on all school transportation vehicles. Riding privilege may be denied for inappropriate or unsafe behavior. The district may use video cameras on buses to maintain order and increase safety.

Students that plan to ride a different bus than usual or get off at a different stop must bring a dated note with parent signature to the Main Office before school. The note must contain the bus number and specific stop. Students may pick up their Bus Permission Slip during their lunchtime. Permission to ride alternate buses is limited to space availability. Some buses may not be able to accommodate additional riders.

Scooters and skateboards are not allowed on the bus. This is a state mandated regulation that was created with your child’s safety in mind. In the event of an accident, items such as skateboards and scooters become projectiles which could cause serious injury. Balloons and bouquets of flowers can also be safety hazards and are not allowed on the school bus.

CELL PHONES/ELECTRONICS POLICY

Students are discouraged from bringing unnecessary personal property or restricted items such as hats, magazines, etc., to school. It serves as a distraction to learning and becomes a temptation for theft. We are confident that our students will “Take care of business,” when it comes to these devices, which is another reason why Rainier Middle School is where “GOOD THINGS HAPPEN!”

At Rainier Middle School students shall observe the following conditions when on school property:

Cell phones/personal electronics/accessories can be used:

*Before school until the 5 minute warning bell and during your scheduled lunch time.

**For academic purposes when directed by the teacher.

At no other times will cell phones/personal electronics/accessories be allowed. Students shall comply with any additional rules developed by the school concerning the appropriate use of telecommunication or other electronic devices, as deemed appropriate.

Students who do not comply with school guidelines for personal electronic devices during the school day will be subject to the following consequences:

1st violation: Teacher provided warning with a reminder of policy and teacher notification home

2nd violation: Confiscation and device sent to the office until the end of the day.

3rd violation: Confiscation and device sent to the office until a parent conference can be arranged at a time that mutually convenient to the parent, student and administrator.

4th violation: Confiscation, device may be retained in the office for extended periods of time at the administrator’s discretion, and students discipline may be applied as a “defiance” violation on the discipline sanction chart on pages 15-16 of this student handbook.

NOTE: When students bring personal valuables against the advice of the school, they do so at their own risk. The school will not be responsible for personal items if they are stolen or confiscated items that are lost, stolen or damaged.

CLOSED CAMPUS

Rainier Middle School is designated as a “closed campus,” which means students MAY NOT leave the school grounds once they have arrived, even if first period has not yet started. When necessary, permission to leave may be granted by the Attendance Office staff. In addition to being a closed campus, Rainier Middle School, has areas where students are not allowed except for instructional purposes. These restricted areas are the parking lots and athletic fields. Students are reminded that wooded areas surrounding the school are also considered off campus. Violation of these rules will result in disciplinary action.

CLUBS AND ACTIVITIES

School isn’t just about classes and homework. Rainier students have the opportunity to get involved in activities to explore interests and talents, to develop leadership skills, to help others, to have social interaction with other students and to have fun! Some of our anticipated activities include:

COMPUTER/CHROMEBOOK ETHICS

By providing each secondary student a Chromebook computer to use at school and at home, Auburn School District (ASD) intends to enable an engaging, collaborative, self-directed, and empowering learning environment that supports students’ preparation for fulfilling futures beyond high school. The use of district‐provided technology requires students to abide by all ASD policies and procedures related to the Acceptable Use Procedures for Electronic Resources, local, state, and federal laws. Students are expected to responsibly use district technology and network resources and to keep their district‐issued devices safe, secure and in good working order.

Chromebook devices are loaned to students and remain the property of the Auburn School District. Just like textbooks, team uniforms, and other school property issued to students for school purposes, there is a responsibility to care for and return school property in good condition. We know, though, accidents or loss may happen, even when students are doing their best to take care of their devices. In recognition of this, Auburn School District offers an optional, inexpensive annual coverage program for parents/guardians to lessen the financial burden should an accident or theft occur. Fees are annual (one time per year) and non-refundable. Chromebook Coverage Program fees may be paid online or at the school cashier’s office. Annual Cost: $25 reduced lunch fee: $15

Free lunch fee: $10. More information at:

$5 discount if enrolled by Friday, September 8! ($20 / $10 / $5)

Our counselors’ offices are located in the Main Office. If a counselor is unavailable, students may complete a Request to See Counselor form and they will be sent for as soon as possible.

DAILY BULLETIN

The daily bulletin highlights and important reminders are read over the intercom system by a student/adult each morning. Students bringing in notices must have them signed by a club advisor or Athletic Director. A copy of the bulletin is posted in the Commons, the Main Office and on the school website.

DISCIPLINARY ACTIONS

A fair and consistent progressive discipline plan must provide degrees of flexibility for the consideration of individuals involved. Considerations for disciplinary action may include: the intent and severity of the act, the number of previous acts by the parties involved, prior disciplinary action taken to alleviate the situation, previous parent involvement and input. Progressive and corrective disciplinary action may involve any of the following actions:

Informal Warning: An administrator or staff member will speak with the student explaining the expectations for future situations.

Student Conference and/or warning: A formal conference is held between the student and staff member to discuss the behavior and expectations and consequences of future situations.

Parent Involvement: Telephone, personal contact, or letter notifies parent/guardian. A conference may be conducted between the student, his/her parent/guardian, and teachers.

Honor Level Infraction: An administrator or staff member will issue an infraction for student misbehavior and progressive discipline will be assigned.

DISCIPLINE PROGRESSION

HONOR LEVEL SYSTEM: RMS incorporates the Honor Level Discipline system into our school discipline routine. This system was created to reward students who consistently make good choices in school. Student behavior is tracked throughout the school year and students at Honor Level One are identified and rewarded. Students who choose to continue in disruptive behavior or have failed to correct their behavior through THINK TIME will receive infractions for their behavior choices, are held accountable through progressive discipline. As a student moves from Level to Level, the disciplinary action taken by the school will be progressive.

Honor Level One students are tracked, acknowledged and rewarded for their positive behavior. The mechanism for moving back to lower stages is time. Discipline that occurred more than 14 days ago do not affect the calculation. Students who have fallen from Honor Level One are notified the day they make it back to Honor Level One. Students not only know the rules, they also know and understand the consequences, transforming discipline from a punitive system into a series of student choices. It is also a fair and forgiving system which allows for differences among students while enforcing and rewarding students for consistent positive behavior choices. Progressive Discipline may include:

LUNCH DETENTION: The student is assigned to a supervised detention during the lunch time. Students assigned lunch detention must immediately report to the detention room, sit quietly, and eat their lunch.

AFTER SCHOOL DETENTION: The student is assigned to a supervised detention after school from 2:00-3:05. All students must work or read silently during detention.

EXTENDED DETENTION The student assigned to Extended Detention will be in a supervised classroom from 2:00 to 5:00 on a given afternoon. During that time students must work or read silently. Unexcused absences from or failure to successfully complete Extended Detention will result in a one day home suspension.

IN-SCHOOL SUSPENSION: The student is assigned to a supervised classroom in an alternative grade level. The student is excluded from all school activities during the suspension period including after school activities. The student is expected to complete work or read silently during the suspension. Failure to meet the expectations of in-school suspension will result in an out of school suspension.

SHORT TERM SUSPENSION FROM SCHOOL (1 to 10 days): The student is excluded from school and related school activities.

LONG TERM SUSPENSION FROM SCHOOL: During a long term suspension the student is excluded from school and related activities for more than 10 days.

EXPULSION FROM SCHOOL: An expulsion means the removal of a student from school, school activities, and all related functions.

DRUG AND ALCOHOL SERVICES

The Auburn School District works with several local treatment agencies to provide chemical dependency/substance abuse intervention services. School Counselors may provide drug and alcohol assessment information, education information, and consultation with students and parents.

FIGHTING

Fighting, pushing, and/or physical aggression is not allowed at school. Students who are involved in any physically aggressive behavior, whether they started the behavior or not, may be subject to an out-of school suspension.

FINES

Fines and/or fees are imposed for books, classroom materials, and/or athletic equipment that are not returned or have been damaged. Grades and class schedules can be withheld until all fines are paid. Students with unpaid fines cannot participate in athletic events, turn out for sports, or participate in school Bashes. Payments can be made at the school or the on-line payment system.

FIRE DRILLS

The purpose of a fire drill is to practice procedures for evacuating the school as quickly as possible in a responsible manner. Fire drill exits are posted in each classroom. When the fire alarm sounds, students and staff will:

✓ Stop work immediately and follow the directions of the staff member in charge

✓ Turn off all power equipment, lights, and close all doors and windows

✓ Move quickly & quietly to the exit area and walk with their class to the North Parking Lot

✓ Silently line up with their FIRST CORE class for attendance in the North Parking Lot

✓ Wait for the SILENT to QUIET signal before talking

✓ Wait for the ALL CLEAR and directions before re-entering the building

FLOWERS/GIFT DELIVERIES

Deliveries of flowers/gifts/balloons to students at school are discouraged. Items will not be delivered to classrooms. Students will be notified to pick up the items in the office at the end of the school day. Balloons and flowers are not allowed on school buses.

FOOD/GUM/BEVERAGE

Food and beverages are not permitted outside of the Commons. Beverages may not be purchased at lunchtime and stored in lockers. Gum chewing is not permitted at school at any time.

GRADING & PROGRESS REPORTS

Formal grading reports for the middle school are four times a year at the end of each quarter. Mid-quarter progress reports will also be mailed home four times during the year. The report periods end as follows:

First Quarter ends- November 3, 2017

Second Quarter ends - January 26, 2018

Third Quarter ends - April 13, 2018

Fourth Quarter ends - June 22, 2018

GUEST TEACHERS

All guest teachers at Rainier will be treated with respect and courtesy. Guest teachers have the same authority as the classroom teacher. Disciplinary sanctions begin at the “After school Detention” level for misbehavior in a guest teacher’s classroom.

HALL PASSES

If students leave class, they must have a pass or clipboard that includes the date, time, destination, and signature of a staff member, or another appropriate pass form, such as an office request, health room pass, or lunchroom pass.

HARRASSMENT/BULLYING

Students understand that harassment of any kind, including verbal, sexual, racial, or physical will not be tolerated at Rainier Middle School. If students see or experience harassment they should report it to an adult immediately. School discipline will be progressive. Please remember we are not able to help harassment/bullying if it is not reported and documented in a timely manner. Our aim is to keep Rainier a safe and positive place for everyone to learn.

HEALTH CARE RECORDS

To comply with the Family Rights and Privacy Act, the school keeps a record of the health care services provided to each student. Parents may ask to see a copy of their child’s record and may request a correction to the record. Records will not be disclosed to others unless a parent directs the school to do so; or unless the law authorizes or compels the school to do so. Health information pertaining to special education needs is located in the Special Student Services Program at the Auburn School District Annex.

HEALTH ROOM

If a student becomes sick during the day, he/she must ask their teacher for a pass to the Health Room, which is located in the Attendance Office. The staff in the Health Room will help the student decide if it is appropriate to stay in school or return home. If leaving, a student may call home and sign out through the Attendance Office. Please be sure that your child’s emergency information is kept up-to-date. You may reach the Health Room by calling 253 931-4855

HOMEWORK & ASSIGNMENTS

Students should expect homework to be assigned. Homework and assignments are extremely important and are included in determining the academic grade for a given class. Homework and assignments are expected to be completed to the best of each student’s ability and turned in on time. Late homework and assignments result in a lower grade. Opportunities are provided to help students with his/her homework:

✓ Individual assistance from the classroom teacher arranged to accommodate both student and teacher calendars before and after school

✓ Power Hour is open *Monday through Thursday until 3:00 pm in the library*subject to volunteer advisor

HONOR ROLL

Students qualify for Honor Roll if they earn a 3.0 (B) average or above at the end of a semester. Students maintaining a 3.5 or better grade average may apply for membership in Rainier’s National Junior Honor Society Chapter.

IMMUNIZATION

Each student is required to meet the state’s immunization standards. Information and forms are available in the Attendance Office. State regulations prohibit students from attending public school without proper immunizations.

LEAVING SCHOOL AT THE END OF THE SCHOOL DAY

At the close of school, students are expected to ride home on the bus, with parent/guardian, or walk home. Students will not be allowed to ride home with unauthorized persons. Students not involved in staff-supervised after-school activities are expected to be out of the building by 2:15. Once a student leaves campus they may not return to attend an after-school function without permission from the office. Pick up location is on the North end of the building, near the gym.

LIBRARY

The Rainier library stocks a wide range of materials of value to students. Students are expected to respect the rights of others by speaking quietly at all times. Students will be issued their own student number to check out books. Library materials must be treated with care and respect and promptly returned to the library. Most items in our library may be checked out for 2 weeks at a time. Fines will be charged for materials damaged or not returned.

LOCKERS

All students will be assigned a locker. Students must use the locker assigned to them. Trading lockers with another student is not allowed. Combinations should be kept confidential and not shared with anyone. Lockers and desks are the property of the school district. Aerosol cans are not allowed at school and may not be stored in lockers. When assigned a locker or desk, a student shall be responsible for its proper care. A student may be subject to a fine for any willful damage to the school property or for cleaning at the end of the school year. Students are expected to keep their assigned lockers closed and locked.

General inspections of lockers may be made with prior notice given to the students for the purpose of collecting misplaced library and textbooks and other school property. The school reserves the right to inspect individual lockers without advance notice. When possible, before opening a student’s locker, an administrator shall seek the consent of the student to conduct the locker inspection. A third party shall always be present to witness such inspection. If the student is not available or does not consent to the inspection (when the search is prompted by a reasonable suspicion that the contents of the locker creates an emergency) the administrator may open the locker. This action will only be taken when it is necessary to protect the students, staff, and/or property of the school. The administrator shall be responsible for completing a written report which describes the purpose of the locker inspection, witnesses present, and objects found during the inspection.

LOST & FOUND

Most lost and found articles are kept in a bin across from the Gym. Items left in the locker rooms are normally kept in the PE Department for a time before being sent to the Lost and Found. Eyeglasses, keys, jewelry, and other small items are kept in the Main Office. Items not claimed will be donated to a local charity.

MEDICATION

Students who take medication at school must provide a completed Authorization for Administration of Medication at School form, signed by both the Physician/Dentist and parent/guardian. This information and medication should be checked through the Health Room, located in the Attendance Office. The school nurse or health room technician will then make arrangements to dispense the medication. No medication (prescribed or over-the-counter) is permitted on campus without prior approval as noted above.

NATURAL DISASTERS

One of the important responsibilities for any school district is to provide for the safety of students in the event of an emergency or natural disaster. Parents and students should be aware of the following:

✓ If the event occurs during the time students are coming to school, buses will continue to school rather than return students to their bus stops.

✓ Students will remain at school, and will not be released or returned home unless/until conditions allow them to be returned safely. In extreme cases this could involve remaining at school overnight.

✓ Parents/guardians are not permitted to remove a student from the school grounds unless they have first checked with school officials and the student has been checked out. Students will not be released to neighbors, friends, or relatives unless written permission is sent, or they are designated on the emergency contact form.

✓ Parents should avoid calling the school during the emergency or natural disaster. The phones may be needed by school officials for emergency communications.

PERSONAL PROPERTY

Aerosol cans, laser pens, electronic games, card collections, and toys are not allowed at school at any time. Items of this type will be taken and held. Rainier Middle School is not responsible for any items that are confiscated. Parents or guardians must pick up confiscated items as they will not be returned to the student.

SNOW BULLETIN

We seldom miss a day of school because of snow conditions. Sometimes in the event of an emergency, school starts an hour late and/or on an emergency schedule. When “Emergency Schedule” is announced, the Emergency Bus Pick-up/Drop-off routes will be in effect. Emergency Transportation information is provided by the district transportation departments. Communication of poor weather days is via the local radio stations: 570 KVI, 950 KJR, 710 KIRO, and many others. Please turn on your radio or television and listen to the 6:30 am news announcements for school closures, late arrivals, or emergency bus routes. Please check District Website. No Announcement means school will be in session on regular schedule.

SOCIAL EVENTS

The ASB sponsors four school Social Events each school year. Bashes are incentives for students to maintain good attendance, take care of outstanding fines, return books and athletic equipment when due, and consistently display good behavior and citizenship. Students that do not meet the expectations set for this reward will not be eligible to attend. Students may not attend the BASH if they leave campus after school, and may not re-enter once they have left the BASH. Tickets for the Bashes are sold as Bash Passes and after school on the day of the event. Students with ASB cards receive a reduced price and should plan to bring their card with them on the day of the BASH. ASB sponsors other fun activities for the students at Rainier throughout the school year.

STUDENT ACTIVITY PROGRAM

The student activity program at Rainier Middle School is designed to offer all students a balanced set of extracurricular opportunities. In addition to student government, there are clubs formed by students with common interests. Each club has a faculty advisor and plans its own activities. All are part of and responsible to the Associated Student Body organization.

STUDENT PRIVACY

The right to privacy is a fundamental tenet of human liberty. District staff shall take particular care to respect student privacy. At the same time, they must protect the health and safety of all students and promote the effective operation of the school. Therefore, only designated personnel shall have the authority to conduct student searches. They shall do so only upon reasonable cause and in a manner prescribed by district policy. A student shall be free from searches of his/her clothing and other personal property unless there is reasonable cause to believe that something is concealed that may be stolen, an illegal substance, or of immediate danger to the student or to other students. School officials shall request a student to remove all items from pockets and other personal effects.

STUDENT RECOGNITION PROGRAM

The goal of the Student Recognition Program is to promote and publicly recognize students for academic and behavioral excellence.

Kiwanis Student of the Month

Each month staff members select one 8th grade female and one 8th grade male as Kiwanis Students of the Month. The program is sponsored by a local service organization and selected students are recognized at a special breakfast, in the local newspaper, and at the end-of-the-year Awards Assembly.

Special Assemblies

Students and their families may be invited to special awards assemblies for a variety of outstanding contributions to the Rainier Community.

SCHOOL VISITATIONS

Parents are always welcome to visit the school. All visitors are asked to enter thought the Main Entrance in the front of the building and report to the Main Office for a visitor’s badge. Classroom visitations must be scheduled in advance through the Principal’s office. Students not enrolled at Rainier are not allowed to visit during the school day or at school social events.

TELEPHONES

The office and classroom telephones are for emergency use only and will not be available for students to use except in emergency situations. Telephone messages will be delivered from parents/guardians only. Parents are encouraged to call and request to speak to or leave a message for their child only in emergency situations.

RAINIER DRESS FOR SUCCESS

The Rainier Middle School Dress Code is based on input of students, parents, and staff. It establishes guidelines that will contribute to a positive learning climate and student success. Because attitudes and behaviors in the learning environment can be influenced by revealing clothing as well as printed statements, pictures, and symbols which appear on clothing, some clothing is inappropriate to wear to school. You and your parents or guardian determine your personal dress and grooming standards; however while at school, they must comply with Rainier Middle School Dress Code.

All RMS students will dress in clothing appropriate for the learning environment. Students who wear clothing that is promoting inappropriate or illegal activities for the learning environment or is inappropriately revealing/tight, will be asked to cover up, change their clothing or the office may provide a more appropriate alternative if they do not have an option of their own

Continued Violations: The student will be sent to the office where he/she will be given the opportunity to change attire. The student will not return to class until the attire meets Rainier’s Dress for Success standards. If unable to change attire, clothing options will be provided to be worn for the remainder of the day. The student’s parents will be notified and progressive discipline for multiple infractions will be applied.
