Carefully consider before purchasing such services. In general it is more productive to research opportunities in the Career Center and continue the search with the information found. After exhausting other resources, it may be time to consider such a service. There are some things to avoid as unproductive at best and outright fraud at worst. Here are six signs that a scholarship is not what it seems: “The scholarship is guaranteed or your money back;” “You cannot get this information anywhere else;” “May I have your credit card or bank account number to hold this scholarship?” “We will do all the work;” “The scholarship will cost some money;” “You have been selected by a ‘National Foundation’ to receive a scholarship,” or “You’re a finalist” in a contest you never entered. More information is available at : February 18, 2013Washington State Opportunity ScholarshipThe Washington State Opportunity Scholarship (WSOS) Board has increased the annual amount juniors and seniors will receive from $1,000 to $5,000 once they are admitted into an approved science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) or health care major. This continues their commitment to invest in Washington students and meet the needs of Washington State employers to fill jobs in high demand fields. WSOS was created by the Washington State Legislature in 2011 to address rising tuition at Washington colleges and universities. It is a public-private partnership funded initially with $5 million from the state of Washington. Boeing and Microsoft have committed $50 million combined.This scholarship provides help to students in families who earn up to 125% of the median family income attain bachelor’s degrees in high employer demand fields including science, technology, engineering, math (STEM) and health care. This expands college financial aid to a greater group of young people beyond the current state need grant which only reaches families with 70% of the median family income.3,000 Scholarships for High Demand FieldsThe Washington State Opportunity Scholarship Board continues to support 3,000 scholars annually. The scholarship program is designed to ease the financial and emotional hardships associated with fighting cancer and to assist young cancer survivors in reaching their academic potential and fulfilling career dreams. The American Cancer Society Cancer Survivor College Scholarship program provides an award of $2,500. Recipients can apply multiple years for a possible lifetime award of up to $10,000 per student. Applications are available at : February 28, 2013It is the goal of the Cascade Warbirds to promote the restoration, preservation, operation and public display of historically significant military aircraft; to acquire and perpetuate the living history of those who served their country on these aircraft; and to inspire today's young people to become the aviation pioneers of tomorrow.In our efforts to engage youth toward this end, we offer the following scholarships:Private Pilot Ground School with Introductory Flights: Cascade Warbirds has teamed with Galvin Flight Service at Boeing Field, Seattle, WA, and with Avian Flight Center at the Bremerton airport to provide the scholarship recipient with tuition, books and supplies, and two introductory instructional flights. Aviation Maintenance Technology: Cascade Warbirds has also teamed with Everett Community College (EvCC) and Snap-on Tools to provide a tool allowance for students who are registered full time in EvCC's A&P program.
