LINKEVC Student Newspaper: EVC News Issue 5Hello EVC families and Guardians:It was an awesome success to see roughly 85% of our students back on campus together. The first day back on Monday was the 399th day since the mid March of 2019 shut down. From my perspective, Monday marked the “full return”. Next week we begin state testing. Please make sure your kids see a decent bed time. Any days missed over the next week and a half will require make-up testing. Cohort-C students have already begun testing with Ms. Scotten online. As a reminder, breakfast and lunch are free to all students. I just received word that this federal program will continue into next school year with two free meals for students each day at school! On Thursday, we have a virtual 5th grade Parent Info Night for incoming (matriculating) 5th grade students and parents. Please join me on Thursday April 29th at 6PM virtually if you have a 5th grader. There is also a Spanish Speaking Parent Info Night on May 11th at 5:30. In addition to the informational nights, we will invite all incoming 5th graders for a tour. This is called "5th Grade Sneak Peek". While we still are not doing any in-person events for adults, 5th grade students will be going to EVC for a tour. Student Surveillance testing available: We are offering free COVID-19 testing to your child through PMH labs on Thursday, April 29th. After this test, you will be offered the opportunity to test your student at no cost every two weeks. Please fill out the attached paperwork and return to the school office. While student testing is not a requirement to attend E.V. Cain Middle School for on-campus instruction, testing students and staff for COVID-19 on a regular basis is an important element of our school safety program. See these links for more info and the corresponding paperwork. Link 1 Link 2 Link 3 Open lunch time duty positions at EVC (THREE POSITIONS): There is no better pool of people to reach out to than our parents for help with lunch time duty. If you are interested, the positions flown for noon duty monitor are on craigslist and Indeed. Thank you for your consideration. We could use some help. Teacher Requests: In accordance with last year’s practice, we will not be taking parent requests for student placement with certain teachers for 2021-2022.APD/ EVC Partnership: APD is in the process of producing an anti-tobacco commercial with a professional local production company. We will have five spots available for EVC students to help act, direct and write the commercial. I will announce this to students in my Morning Announcements on Monday. I will tell them how to sign up. We will also have a T-shirt art contest, where APD will have the winning T-shirt design be featured on a promotional shirt.
