AP Human Geography Students Continue Excellence

AP Human Geography is offered to students at the Ninth Grade Academy. This course is just one of fourteen different Advanced Placement courses that are offered at WBHS. At the end of the course, students can take the national AP Human Geography exam for the opportunity to earn college credit hours. The exam is

scored on a scale from 1 to 5, with 3 being the benchmark score for most colleges. During the 2015-2016 school year, 75% of William Blount students who took the AP Human Geography exam scored a 3 or higher while only 50% of students nationally scored a 3 or higher.

Gov Alums: Where are they now?

In a recent survey of WBHS Alumni, we discovered some interesting facts about what a few of our Govs are up to now. Highlights include: Frankie Turner (`85) is the Restaurant Operator of the

Chick-fil-A at Hamilton Crossing in Alcoa. Mike Brewer (`88) is a graduate of Tennessee Tech Uni-

versity and is the Special Education Coordinator for Blount County Schools. Jennifer Pfeiffer (`92) is a graduate of UT Knoxville and is the Deputy Chief of Staff at the Department of Children's Services for the State of Tennessee. Jon Young (`00) is principal of Carpenters Middle School in Blount County. Haley Stinnett (`07) is currently presenting her Doctoral Dissertation at the University of Chicago and will earn her Ph.D. in Integrative Biology this June. Travis Wilson (`09) is a graduate of UT Knoxville and currently works as a Nuclear Criticality Safety Engineer at Y12 National Security Complex in Oak Ridge.

National Merit Finalists named at WB

During the 2016-2017 school year, four William Blount students were named National Merit Scholarship Finalists. Students are selected from across the country based on SAT scores.

Approximately 15,000 students nationwide received this honor, and seven of them live in Blount County. In addition to the four students from William Blount High School, Maryville High School had two students, and one is enrolled in a home school program.

"This is an incredible honor for our students and for William Blount, and we are looking forward to watching as our four finalists compete for National Merit Scholarships," says William Blount principal Rob Clark. Approximately 7,500 National Merit Scholarships are awarded each year.
