MISSION STATEMENT

Barrington High School is a public school with an open enrollment of 2,900 students. Our mission is to develop in our students a love for life-long learning, the ability to think

critically, communicate clearly, and take risks willingly to realize their potential.

School, Community and Curriculum

Located 40 miles northwest of Chicago, Barrington High School serves 2,900 students from twelve suburban villages covering a 72-square mile area. To serve a diverse student population, Barrington High School offers a choice-filled curriculum tailored to a wide spectrum of instruction, ranging from English language learners to Honors and AP courses for highly qualified students. The average class size is 23.7 students taught by one of 232 full time certified staff; 85% hold advanced degrees.

Barrington High School's rigorous college preparatory curriculum provides students with the opportunity to achieve in all disciplines. Student schedules are comprised of eight 47 minute class periods daily, selected from a curriculum of 300 courses in academic and career studies. 91 Honors level courses and 35 AP level courses are offered across all subject areas. Independent Study is also available.

Transcript Policy: Traditional high school courses taken in middle school are not included on the transcript. It can be assumed that students who begin high school in a second year or higher-level course have completed the introductory level(s) successfully before entering ninth grade. Barrington High School does not report test scores on transcripts and can verify only information that is part of a student's permanent record.

Grade Replacement Policy: Students may replace the grade they receive in a course by repeating the course. The course must be completed within 15 months of completing the course they are repeating, and must be taken prior to or concurrently with the next course in the sequence. Only the higher grade will be counted for course credit and GPA purposes. All courses will remain on the transcript. The higher grade will be reflected in the term that the grade was earned. The course in which the lower grade was earned will remain on the transcript with an "R" (repeat).

Disciplinary Records Policy: District 220 does not share student disciplinary records with post-secondary institutions.
