As the one-year anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center (WTC) approaches, the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), a non-regulatory agency of the Department of Commerce and ANSI member, recently announced the details of its $16 million, two-year federal building and fire safety investigation into the structural failure and subsequent collapse of WTC Buildings 1 and 2 ("The Twin Towers") and WTC Building 7.

October 15-16, 2002 ANSI 2002 Annual Conference

“Breaking Down Borders: Business, Standards and Trade” This symposium will explore key issues affecting global commerce and trade within the context of standards and conformity assessment activities.

One of the event’s breakout sessions, CA 202--Taking Conformity Assessment to the Next Level: How ANSI is Tackling Conformity Assessment Business, Trade and International Issues will identify specific goals of the new ANSI National Conformity Assessment document. The discussion will include conformity assessment definitions in the International Organization for Standardization/International Electrotechnical Commission (ISO/IEC) Guide 2; categorization of general conformity assessment activities; and consideration of the principles in the World Trade Organization Agreement on Technical Barriers to Trade.

October 15, 2002 ANSI Annual Awards Banquet and Ceremony

The Institute will honor the achievements of deserving members of the standards and conformity assessment community at its annual Awards Banquet and Ceremony immediately following Day One of the ANSI Annual Conference.
