Title Science Data, Curriculum and Instructional (DCI) Coordinator

Qualifications:

1. Tennessee teaching certification

2. Track record of evidence of improving student achievement in the classroom

3. Knowledge and use of rich array of instructional and laboratory approaches, resources and technologies

4. Demonstrates skills in analyzing and using data for instructional decision-making

5. Interpersonal, problem solving and organizational skills required to effectively facilitate instruction and staff development

6. Ability to design or broker for high quality training for teachers/school staff

7. Knowledge of equity issues in current educational reform

8. Knowledge and skill using the Tennessee Science Standards

Terms of Employment: 10 months (Flexible Schedule). Salary commensurate with training and experience. Evaluation annually based on performance of assigned duties and established performance objectives

Job Goal: To improve the ability of school staff to analyze data and use data to improve instruction and learning.

Essential Functions:

These may include the following and other duties may be assigned.

1. Oversee creation and implementation of pacing guides for all middle and high school science curricula

2. Conduct professional staff development activities for science faculty and other, related program instructors

3. Assist in administration of TCAP Science examinations, EPAS Examinations, Science Gateway and EOC Examinations

4. Examine test data associated with science examinations and create summary reports to be disseminated to teachers & administrators

5. Assist school administrators in formal evaluation process of science instructors

6. Create and maintain an internet science curriculum laboratory activity and curriculum support page for use by all science faculty

7. Coordinate middle & high school science faculty interaction to promote student transition.

8. Coordinate use of formative assessment system in middle and high school science programs.

9. Create and maintain an accurate inventory of middle school and high school science instructional equipment.

10. Create and implement a uniform standard of safety training and testing for all middle school and high school laboratory science programs.

11. Work with math and language arts personnel to create and implement cross-curricular activities.

12. Oversee existing AP science course offerings, plan for future AP expansion

13. Work with TCSPP steering committee on all action plans pertaining to science instruction

14. Communicate, through oral, written and electronic presentations, data relative to district and schools

15. Attend training classes and other district meetings as assigned – particularly, attend all data sessions and summer cadre sessions conducted by the State Department of Education

16. Submits a progress/activity report to the Director.

Physical Demands

This job may require lifting of objects that exceed 50 pounds, with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Other physical demands that may be required are as follows:
