Course Description: This course begins with the study of residential design and provides instruction in utilizing various CAD software and hand drawing techniques as it relates to the architectural industry. Each student will have the opportunity to combine their creativity with the practicality of floor plans, elevations, plot plan specifications, and interior design, to create a single family home complete with a virtual tour.

Student Competencies:

The big picture:

• Students will prepare to draw with basic drawing, lettering, and dimensioning skills.

• Students will effectively design house plans using basic organizational, spatial, structural, and construction principles.

• Students will use leadership and teamwork skills in collaborating with others to accomplish goals and objectives.

• Students will explore, plan, and effectively manage careers.

• Students will understand and apply basic house plans and layouts

• Students will be able to identify various architectural symbols

Class Policies:

It is real simple the most important POLICY I have is please treat your classmates, textbook, computer, teacher and yourselves with the utmost RESPECT. In other words, treat others as you wish to be treated. In addition to this:

1. Please be on time for class & watch your attendance… it is VERY important in this project based class

2. Please NOTE: There is ABSOLUTELY NO FOOD in the lab, especially NUTS

3. Please be responsible for you

4. Be a team player, support your fellow classmates

5. No Sleeping

6. No inappropriate language

7. Complete all homework, writing assignments, quizzes, exams, etc.

8. Please leave the computers and the space you are using, the same way you found them.

Evaluation & Grading: Students will be evaluated on the following:

* Daily Participation - how well class time is utilized

* Projects * Architectural Sketchbook * Homework

* Assessments * Drawings * Portfolio-Weebly

* Project requirements will be issued with each project.

* Grades will be based on total points earned, then divided by the total points possible

* Grades will be calculated in accordance to the district policy:

93-100 A 80-82 B- 67-69 D+

90-92 A- 77-79 C+ 63-66 D

87-89 B+ 73-76 C 60-62 D-

83-86 B 70-72 C- 59-below E

 * Late work will be marked down one grade for one day late. Assignments more than one day late will receive a maximum of 50%

* Extra credit is rare, and will not be issued to students if there are any

missing assignments.

*Missed tests and quizzes must be made up within 2 days of returning to

school, or it will result in a grade of zero. Please note: missed tests are

subject to modified tests.

* Cheating on a test or plagiarizing work will result in an automatic F and recorded in the student’s file for academic dishonesty. Cheating will NOT BE TOLERATED!

* Students will receive 1 class day to make up missed work. This will be

done outside of class time.

*It is the student's responsibility to see the instructor for missed

assignments

*The Trimester is work 80% of the final grade, whereas the final exam will be worth 20%

* Students must complete a portfolio requirement for this course.

Final Exam

You must be present on the final exam to successfully complete the course. Failure in taking the Final will result in failure of the class.

If you will not be here the day Final Exams are administered, please contact me at the very least, 2 weeks prior to your last day.

Teamwork

In our classroom we work as a team. It is very important for you to talk to me if you are having difficulty with assignments, or feel uncomfortable with an activity, discussion, assignment, or other students. I will take any measure possible to help you devise a solution.

Attendance

This is a real easy one—be here and be here on time. I follow the school’s attendance policies, so please refer to student handbook.

Upon returning from an absence, it is the student’s responsibility to find out what he/she is missing.
