|Placement |F1 Transplant Surgery |

|The department |The renal transplant department has both nephrology consultants and renal|

| |surgery consultants. Operations include: kidney transplants, SPK, PAK, |

| |EPS surgery, AV fistula creation and resiting. |

|The type of work to expect and learning |FY1 doctors are ward based during the day. |

|Main duties of the placement |The FY1 doctor is responsible for the care of patients on the surgical |

| |ward, alongside the rest of the medical team. They clerk in patients |

| |pre-op. |

|Typical working pattern in this placement |Daily: 08:00 SpR ward round, 13:00 consultant ward round. Weds: 08:00 |

| |MDT meeting Thurs: 13:00 FY1 teaching afternoon On call sat/sun |

| |covering surgical specials: 08:00 - 21:00 1/6 Medical long day on call |

| |during week covering medical wards: 17:00 - 21:00 Nights (specials): |

Following the predicted merger of CMFT with Trafford in 2012 it is likely that some or all trainees entering this combined program will work across both sites during their two year rotation. It may be necessary to change the location of posts if services move between the two sites within the next three years.
