Community and School

Western Harnett High School serves a primarily rural community with some clusters of suburban development. The community is readily accessible to Fayetteville and Sanford in surrounding counties with close proximity to two military bases (Ft. Bragg and Pope AFB). Western Harnett High School is a public school serving approximately 1450 students in grades 9-12. Students attend school in a concentrated curriculum or ‘block’ schedule consisting of four courses in 80-minute blocks each semester and a 40 minute SOAR (Student Opportunities and Remediation) block daily.

Western Harnett High School is accredited by the State Department of Public Instruction and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.

Science 3 credits (Earth/Environmental, Biology, and a physical science)

History 4 credits (World History, American History I & II, Civics/Economics *C/O 2016 & Beyond)

Electives 11-12 credits (depending on history requirement/yr. of graduation)

Grading

Class rank is determined by a weighted grade point average calculated on a 4.0 scale. Advanced Placement (AP) courses earn two additional quality points. Honors courses earn one additional quality point. *For the incoming freshman class (C/O 2019), AP courses earn 1 additional quality point and Honors courses earn ½ (.5) additional quality point.
