The Public Health Program of the National Park Service is currently recruiting a Public Health Service Officer for a position in the NPS Intermountain Region located in Flagstaff, AZ. Applicants in the EHO, HSO, and Engineering Categories will be considered. The Billet for this position is O-4.

This position is responsible for assisting the National Park Service Park Superintendents in an assigned geographic area within the Intermountain Region. Applicants should have a strong environmental/public health background. Responsibilities include evaluation of food safety, drinking water safety, wastewater treatment and disposal, zoonotic and vector borne disease and consultation for all public health related issues that may occur in the assigned parks. Other specific areas of public health responsibility and support include recreational water, special events, training, outbreak investigation, plan review, and emergency/disaster response for both the National Park Service and for the Public Health Service.

The position requires moderate travel, which is concentrated in the summer season (April through September). Five years of field experience in the performance of public health, environmental health, engineering, or related fields is required. A Bachelor of Science degree in environmental health, engineering, public health, or a related field is required. A Masters Degree (eg. MPH, MSPH, MS, or equivalent) is preferred and may be substituted for equivalent years of field experience. Commissioned Corps applicants must meet OFRD Readiness Standards. Civilian applicants must be willing and able to qualify for a commission in the Commissioned Corps of the United States Public Health Service.
