Thinking Of Breeding

Your (breed) Puppy Information Pack

Put a couple of pictures of your breed here

(Affix) Kennels

(Affix) Kennels is a small, family run kennel

occasionally breeding a litter of puppies.

Our dogs all live with us as members of our family, living in the house with

us.

This information pack is given to any person who enquires in to

purchasing a (breed) puppy from us. As breeders we feel that the more information

that a prospective purchaser can gain before

actually getting the puppy, the more aware they will be of the

responsibilities of owning a (breed) puppy.

If you go on to purchase a puppy from us you will receive a detailed diet sheet and all

the information on your puppy including a full

pedigree and if relevant registration documents.

Although we would always like to have a puppy for everyone who wishes one, we cannot

guarantee that at the time of asking or even from the next litter that there will be a

puppy available. Puppies can be booked many months in advance and we always like

to make sure people are aware that we have

no control over how may puppies are born in any one litter.

The Breed

(1/3 page picture of your breed, preferably your dog)

Brief Description of your breed. Include general size, coat type character. Breed Origins and when it came to the UK (or your country). What they breed were used for, what they are used for now. Be sure to give a balanced argument, how they aren’t the breed for everyone, but you wouldn’t change breeds. Briefly talk about difficulties, for instance the Teenage phase. And how it is you can overcome these problems.

Is The (breed) the Dog for You?

List all the bad bits first. Be honest, remember that you only want a puppy buyer that is still interested in the puppy/ breed after they have heard all the bad things.

Then list the good points; character, protective, loyal etc Describe why you can’t imagine life without one. Use humour here, tell little stories or anecdotes about the breed.

(Aim to write at least 1 ½ pages- the more detail the better. Make it balanced)

(Breed) History

Talk in detail how the breed came about. Talk about breeds mixed together (if applicable). What were the reasons for creating the breed. Use dates where available. If available, use the name of the person who originally created the breed. Talk about when the KC first recognised them. Mention any breed difficulties over the times. How the breed has progressed. Numbers and in form/ conformation. (aim for ½ page min)

Breed Standard

Copy the KC or FCI Breed Standard here, making the headings in Bold for maximum effect.

(Breed) Care

Coat Care: Talk about how to keep the coat/ skin nice. Talk about any natural odour the breed has/ hasn’t. If necessary mention sun creams/ ointments you may need to protect the coat/ skin. Frequency of bathing, how to bathe effectively. Include drying tips.

List the Grooming Equipment in bullet points and a brief description of how to use each tool.

Feeding/ Diet: Talk about the dietary requirements of any breed, and compare this to your breed. Mention foods to avoid and foods recommended. Also mention that the puppies feeding regime will be included in your puppy pack upon collection of puppy.

Brief description of raw feeding. Also give a brief list of foods poisonous to dogs, Chocolate, grapes, raisins, onions etc and why these shouldn’t be fed. Talk about common food conditions like Bloat, food intolerances etc.

Exercise: Brief description about why exercise is important but also mention that puppies exercise has to be monitored. Talk about what the needs of the breed are regarding exercise. How to prepare for exercise (eg, some need coats)
