BCHS SCHOOL PHILOSOPHY

Education is an unending process of acquiring the tools necessary for life. The faculty at BCHS strives to prepare each student for a productive and fulfilling life. The school should not only provide the student with the fundamental skills that the American society demands for securing a livelihood, but also graduate him/her with a clear awareness of his/her intellectual and cultural inheritance.

As a member of a diverse community rich in culture, the student will be encouraged to consider and respect varied viewpoints. Equipped with skills and knowledge, and directed by an appreciation for his culture, the student desires to continue growing and learning in a technologically advanced and changing society.

Consistent with this philosophy, BCHS offers varied curricular, including general education, college preparation, vocational training, and special education services. The school associates learning with joy and generosity of spirit that nurtures an individual and sends him/her forth aware of his heritage and committed to serve his community.

Textbook Procedures

FALL SEMESTER

Issuing of Textbooks

1. Textbooks will be delivered to your classrooms before the first day of school. Textbooks may be used for class, but they should stay in the classroom until checked out to students.

2. An administrator will come to your classroom to check out textbooks to students. Students must have their schedule with them in order to check out their book.

3. Students who do not receive books due to unpaid fees will receive them from Ms. Baker upon payment.

Collecting of Textbooks

1. An administrator will visit each class individually to collect books. Students will be asked to have their textbooks with them at this time. Announcements will be made to remind students to bring textbooks with them to a particular class. More details will be given closer to this time.

2. Books will be returned based on book number (barcode), not student name. Therefore, if a student turns in a book that is not his, he will still be charged a fee until his specific book is returned. In the meantime, the student whom the book belonged to will be removed from liability even though he did not actually turn in the book.

SPRING SEMESTER

Issuing of Textbooks

1. Textbooks will be in your classrooms before the first day of the semester. Textbooks may be used for class, but they should stay in the classroom until checked out to students.

2. An administrator will come to your classroom to check out textbooks to students. Students must have their schedule with them in order to check out their book.

3. Students that owe fees will not be allowed to receive books at this time. Mrs. Muscarella will have colored schedules for those who still owe money which will make them easier to identify.

Collecting of Textbooks

1. Collection of textbooks in the spring will be done in the same way as in the fall. One exception to this is the collection of senior textbooks. Since seniors will be leaving early, their textbooks will be collected at an earlier date than the remainder of the school.

2. Teachers using class sets are to gather all books and get an accurate count of the total number of texts they have.

NOTES:

• For class sets that are designated to remain within the classroom, the teacher is responsible for maintaining an exact count of the books in his/her room. Counting books periodically and assigning the same books to students each time they are used will help maintain an accurate book count.

• In some instances, the administration or counseling staff may deem it necessary to make schedule changes. In such a case, all textbook exchanges will take place in the office. A student should not turn his/her book into or receive a book from a teacher.

• Any stray books found throughout the school should be immediately returned to Ms. Baker.

• We are aware of the interruptions these procedures may cause in the classrooms, especially at the beginning and end of the year, but please know that proper measures will be enacted to see that these interruptions are kept to a minimum.
