DAVID BJORKMANLead Faculty MemberBachelor of Science in Emergency ManagementPennsylvania College of TechnologyWilliamsport, PennsylvaniaMr. David Bjorkman currently serves as the Lead Faculty Member for the Pennsylvania College of Technology’s Bachelor of Science in Emergency Management program. Previously, he served as the Emergency Management Coordinator (EMC) for Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, a Level II trauma hospital and regional burn center located in Baltimore, Maryland. In this capacity, he was responsible for the hospital’s Comprehensive Emergency Management Program, including all planning, training, and exercise projects.Prior to his position as a hospital EMC, Mr. Bjorkman was a public health preparedness consultant in central Pennsylvania. During this time, he was engaged in a 5-month, onsite deployment at the Southeast District Office of the Pennsylvania Department of Health during the height of the 2009 Novel Influenza A (H1N1) pandemic, supporting mass vaccination clinic efforts. Mr. Bjorkman has worked on multiple emergency management planning and exercise projects with a number of state and local emergency management and public health agencies.Prior to his emergency management career, Mr. Bjorkman spent more than 4? years as a police officer with the Baltimore City Police Department. He then served for almost 3? years as a police officer with the Penn State University Police Department. Mr. Bjorkman holds a master’s degree in Public Health Preparedness from Penn State University, College of Medicine. He earned a B.S. in Criminal Justice from Shippensburg University.Mr. Bjorkman is looking for best practices from other higher education institutions that offer Emergency Management undergraduate programs, including program assessment methodology, program marketing, student recruitment and retention, and the approach other schools take to balance theory/research with real-world emergency practice in the classroom. ................
