Kim McKay was promoted to that position. The department is now recruiting to fill Kim’s prior position of Constituent Services and?Outreach Specialist.MDOD is continuing to recruit for the accessibility coordinator position. This position will be collocated with the Department of Information Technology to address web accessibility issues.MDOD is recruiting for Access Maryland and ADA Director.This year’s Maryland Youth Leadership Forum will be held at Towson University and coordinated by Independence Now. The Leadership Forum is an intense 4-5 day where young people with disabilities learn about civil engagement, leadership skills, communication skills and disability community ernor Hogan issued an Executive Order to establish a Mental and Behavioral Health Commission. Lt. Governor is the chair of that commission. The commission is comprised of 4 subcommittees that are focused on financing and funding, youth and families, crisis services, and criminal justice. Christian Miele will be the co-chair along with Dr. Randy Walters for the youth and families subcommittee. The next meeting is scheduled for May 29, 2019.Accessible Transportation Presentation – Teddy KrolikFULL PRESENTATION IS ATTACHEDLegislative Updates – Elizabeth Hall/Christian MieleThree of the six bills that MDOD had been given approval to either do a letter of information or a letter of support have been signed into law. HB 168 Public Safety - Reporting of Hate Crimes, This law ensures any hate crimes against people with disabilities are investigated and any data on the hate crime are reported in the state police statistics.?SB339/HB 397 Public Safety - 9-1-1 Emergency Telephone System (Carl Henn's Law) This law improves the 911 Emergency Telephone System to better serve Maryland. SB 425/HB 1189 Home Energy Assistance - Critical Medical Needs Program,This law codifies a practice which was informally in place to assist individuals with the application for home energy mission Member/Visitor UpdatesKim Burton: The Coalition on Mental Health and Aging is putting together a paper on issues and opportunities around late life behavioral health issues. The paper will be shared once it’s finished.Seth Morgan: There are more concerns about the development of bicycle lanes and floating bus stops. It raises problems for visually-impaired individuals’ ability to safely cross. There is also concern for pedestrians’ safety when scooters are just left lying on the sidewalks. Dan McIntyre: The issues of biking problems have come up in Baltimore City/Baltimore County. Brandon Lilly: Was honored with an award for his work with the disability community.Marc Leeds: Staff Changes: Due to the retirement of one of the deputy directors, there has been a reorganization of responsibilities. Looking to use the vacant pin for a division chief whose focus will be nursing homes and nursing facilities. This person would need to have background in the nursing home industry and some fiscal expertise. Lorraine, who was in charge of home and community based options waiver and community first choice, also left the department to work with CMS. Nancy Jenkins: The Art Without Limits artwork is on display at the Arundel Center in the lobby. Approximately 7-8 pieces of work are being displayed from people varying in ages up into their 80’s. The Anne Arundel County commission will host its annual retreat next month. The discussion will focus on health for people with disabilities. There will be representatives present to talk about medical marijuana, nutrition, and exercise. Bob Sweeney: Still great concern about the illegal use of handicapped tags and placards. Concerns about the lack of automatic door openers at businesses. A letter was submitted to Senator Van Hollen expressing these concerns.AdjournmentMeeting Adjourned at 6:01 p.m. ................
