She previously worked as an elementary-education administrator in Cabarrus Public Schools. The Steeles openly share their marriage struggles in a book penned by her husband, Ten Things to Help Your Marriage Today, where he provides a step-by-step guide to rescuing a marriage through God and focusing on your spouse. A former police officer, Michael became a pastor 12 years ago, and around the time the Steeles began experiencing money troubles. In 2000, Michael Steele purchased a modest home (1,562 square feet) in Concord, NC, and both were named on the mortgage for the home. Within just a few years, the Steeles had three children (and two more on the way) and needed a larger home. In May 2007, they purchased a larger home (3,500+ square feet) and secured almost 100% financing. By April 2009, the IRS filed a tax lien totaling $22,746 against the Steeles for non-payment a few years prior. It was released seventeen months later, in late 2010. Later that year, in August 2009, Bank of America appointed a substitute trustee, Brock & Scott PLLC, a law firm, in order to initiate foreclosure proceedings on the home they purchased in 2007. According to court documents, they stopped paying their mortgage in December 2008. By November 2009, Brock & Scott received the first of nine potential sale dates for the Steeles’ home. In January 2011, fourteen months later, the firm notified the courts that they had not received updated information from Bank of America. The foreclosure proceedings were dismissed. The Steeles’ mortgage modification agreement was finally approved in February 2012. They were permitted to refinance using HUD money, which reset the terms of the loan. In the filing, they signed off claiming extreme financial distress and their mortgage in default. This was the first of three modifications secured by the Steeles. Last June, they modified through FreddieMac, which extended their loan to a 40-year agreement. As with the previous modification, they indicated that they were in default status. Of note, they described the home as their primary residence. On December 7, 2017, the Steeles signed an FHA Home Affordability Modification agreement on the Branson Road property. As with the other two modifications, they indicated a default status and that the residence served as their primary home. Within six months, they called two homes their primary residence. Between 2016 and 2017, their Homeowner’s Association filed a lien against the Steeles for non-payment of dues.According to Steele’s financial disclosure, she and her husband currently hold student loans and a commercial loan. Steele previously listed income from Cabarrus Public Schools plus real estate and education consulting commissions. Instead, in 2019, she now lists income from just the education consulting. She and Michael now receive rent for one of their homes in Cabarrus County. As an individual, Steele was the subject of at least five traffic cases during the past 15 years. At least two of the cases were for speeding. She was also named as a party in a civil case over a wrongful eviction. According to the case, Steele changed the locks on a home where the plaintiffs lived in her role as a representative of the property management company, but the grounds for the eviction were personal (the property owner was previously in a relationship with the plaintiff). As a result of the stress of the situation, the plaintiff claimed she miscarried a baby. Steele’s attorney filed an answer denying any responsibility in the case, and ultimately the matter was dismissed. As a candidate, Steele placed just 2,000 votes behind Linda Johnson in the 82nd District. Much of her funding for the race in 2018 came from individuals, although her largest contributor was the Democratic Party of North Carolina, which gave more than $40,000 to her committee. At the close of the February reporting period, Steele disclosed nearly $23,000 cash on hand. Background and BiographyIdentifying InformationName:Aimy Shantell La’Nae Steele (nee Williams)DOB:June 24, 1979Address:521 Montgrove Place NWConcord, NC 28027Family:Husband: Michael Jerome Steele Sr. (4/1975) Five children: Michaela, Mariah, Michael Jr., Maya, and MylesBiographyThe following biography was taken from Steele's campaign website: Meet Aimy SteeleMOTHER. The plaintiffs claimed payment of $20,000 plus a deposit of $1,395.Blanks and Serian acted pro se, and quickly backed off the issue after Steele’s attorney filed an answer claiming that she was acting in her capacity as an employee of Advanced Realty Solutions.
