NOTEWORTHY INCIDENTS - UNIFORMED PATROL DIVISION

04/01/08, 1801 South Ocean Drive (City Parking Garage), Disturbance, 08-12912

Officers responded to a disturbance where approximately 40 subjects were fighting. During the altercation, several fire extinguishers were discharged. One suspect was arrested for brandishing a bat and the other subjects fled upon the arrival of police.

04/01/08, 218 Southeast 7 Street, # 2, Lewd/Lascivious Battery, 08-12854

A 15 year old victim came to the police station and reported she was pregnant by a 24-year-old suspect. The suspect was refusing to acknowledge his responsibility. 

ISD: This case is being investigated. The detective is preparing the case to be presented to the State Attorney’s Office for review.

       

04/01/08, 927 Old Federal Highway, Armed Robbery, 08-12933

The suspect entered the store and displayed a handgun demanding the money and phone from the clerk. The suspect fled on foot. There were no injuries.

ISD: This case has been assigned to a detective and is currently being investigated.

04/03/08, 722 Northeast 4 Court, Residential Burglary, 08-13179

Officers responded to a suspicious incident and found two suspects inside the listed location. Investigation revealed the suspects entered the home without permission and were taken into custody.

ISD: The detective met with the victim and suspects and obtained sworn taped statements. The suspects were placed under arrest. This case has been forwarded to the State Attorney’s Office.

 04/04/2008, 105 Northeast 12 Avenue, #10, Sexual Battery on a Child, possibly under 11 yoa, 08-13304

A complaint was received about an adult having sexual contact with a child. A joint investigation revealed the suspect engaged in sexual contact with multiple victims in Hollywood and was subsequently arrested.

ISD: The victims and suspect have been identified in this case. The suspect was arrested and charged accordingly. This is a joint investigation between Hallandale Beach Police Department and Florida Department of Law Enforcement. The case has been presented to the State Attorney’s Office.

04/06/08, 1800 South Ocean Drive, Drowning, 08-13655

The victim was observed floating face down in the ocean approximately 100 yards off shore. The victim was pulled from the ocean. All reviving attempts failed.

ISD: This case was investigated and it was determined that the death was ruled an accidental drowning.

04/08/08, 900 Northwest 6 Avenue, Damage to Police Vehicle #811, 08-14136

An unknown suspect fired a pellet or BB gun at the officer on the side of the road, damaging the police vehicle. Approximate damage: $50.00. There were no injuries.

04/12/08, 400 Block of Pembroke Road, Vehicle vs. Motorcycle Crash, 08-14482

A motorcycle was illegally passing a line of stopped vehicles when a vehicle made an improper U-turn, colliding with the motorcycle. Traffic Homicide Investigators responded and investigated the accident. Both drivers suffered moderate injuries.

04/18/08, 100 Southeast 3 Street, Attempted Armed Robbery, 08-15278   

The victim was approached from behind by a suspect demanding money. When the victim would not comply, the suspect stabbed him twice and fled the scene. The wounds were minor and treated by Rescue.

ISD: This case was investigated and the victim was uncooperative. There was no property taken and there were no witnesses to the incident. The victim cannot identify the suspects, so there is no solvability factor in this incident and the case has been closed

     

04/18/08, 212 Three Islands Boulevard, Person in Distress/Water Rescue, 08-15297

The victim attempted to swim across the intercoastal waterway after he made a bet with another person. Upon reaching the other side, he was too tired to climb the sea wall. Officers pulled the swimmer to safety.

04/21/08, 401 Southwest 8 Street, Apt. A, Residential Burglary, 08-15721

Officers responded to a burglary in progress. Upon arrival, officers observed a suspect who fled from officers. After a short foot pursuit, the suspect was apprehended and found to be in possession of items taken from the burglary.

ISD: A detective met with the suspect and obtained a sworn taped statement, at which time the suspect confessed to the burglary. The suspect was charged accordingly and the file has been sent to the State Attorney’s Office for review.

04/22/08, 100 Southwest 7 Avenue, Armed Robbery, 08-15801

As the victim was walking he was approached by suspects brandishing a handgun who then demanded his backpack and wallet while. One suspect ripped a chain from the victim’s neck and then the suspects ordered the victim to run from the location.

ISD: This case was investigated. Due to the victim’s inconsistent statements and being unable to identify the suspects, there is no solvability factor. Therefore this case has been closed.

04/26/08, 900 Old Federal Highway, Armed Robbery, 08-16421

The suspects entered the store brandishing handguns. The suspects demanded money from the register and tobacco products before fleeing the scene. There were no injuries.

ISD: This case has been assigned to a detective and is currently under investigation.

04/28/08, Bank of America, 801 East Hallandale Beach Boulevard, Attempted Bank Robbery, 08-16634

The suspect entered the bank and displayed a note demanding money. The suspect became nervous, retrieved the note, and fled without the money.  

ISD: Detectives responded to the scene and interviewed the victim and witnesses. It was confirmed that no money was taken and no one was injured. The F.B.I. responded to the scene. This case is currently under investigation.

04/29/08, 2501 East Hallandale Beach Boulevard, Armed Robbery w/ Firearm, 08-16838

The suspect entered the store and purchased a soda. When the register was opened, the suspect pointed a handgun at the clerk and demanded money. The clerk complied and the suspect fled. There were no injuries.

ISD: A detective responded to the scene and met with the victim. There was no video surveillance or witnesses to the incident. This case is currently under investigation.

04/29/08, Northwest 10 Avenue & Northwest 10 Street, Traffic Crash/Possible T.H.I. 08-16861

A motorcycle rider was driving recklessly and lost control through an open field. The driver struck a guide wire, throwing him off the motorcycle. The driver sustained critical injuries.

04/29/08, 501 Southeast 1 Avenue, Train-vs-Pedestrian, 08-16834

A victim was observed lying on the tracks just prior to being struck by the train. The investigation is continuing.

NOTEWORTHY INCIDENTS - SPECIAL OPERATIONS DIVISION (SOD)

The Special Operations Division is currently working a joint investigation with the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA).

The SOD Detectives conducted several buy/bust operations in the City of Hallandale Beach. During these operations, nine suspects were arrested and charged with felony narcotic violations. Approximately 69.1 grams of crack cocaine, approximately 93.4 grams of powder cocaine and approximately 3.8 grams of cannabis were seized, with an approximate street value of $5,100.00.

The SOD Detectives executed a search warrant and arrested two suspects for felony narcotic violations. Approximately 2 grams of crack cocaine was seized with an approximate street value of $60.00. Additionally, $209.00 in U.S. currency was confiscated for possible forfeiture.

The SOD Detectives in concert with Uniformed Patrol Officers conducted a search of a residence with consent of the owner. During the search, two suspects were arrested, charged with felony narcotic and firearm violations. Additionally, Detectives seized two twelve gauge shotguns, one rifle and one .38 special revolver, with an approximate street value of $1,000.00, approximately 98.2 grams of cannabis and approximately 2 grams of crack cocaine, with an approximate street value of $770.00.

The SOD Detectives along with the Broward Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant in the city. Two suspects were arrested for felony narcotic violations. Detectives seized approximately 177 grams of crack cocaine and approximately 10 grams of cannabis, with an approximate street value of $6,000.00. Additionally, $14,375.00 in U.S. currency was confiscated for possible forfeiture.

The SOD Detectives also participated in a statewide multi-agency effort to combat illicit cultivation of marijuana within residences in the jurisdiction of Broward County. Approximately forty residences were targeted. The operation yielded numerous arrests, the confiscation of a large quantity of marijuana plants and the hydroponics’ equipment, which was being utilized to facilitate the operations.

DEPARTMENT VACANCIES

The Police Department had the following vacancies through the month of April: (16) Police Officers, (2) Community Service Aides and (1) Part-Time Police Officer.
